Estimated Areas under Wheat, Oats, Barley, and Potatoes
(Season 1927-28).

AS in previous years cards were sent out by post to grain-growers and to potato-growers throughout the Dominion, asking them to state what areas they had sown or planted or intended to sow or plant in wheat, oats, and potatoes this season. In addition to the foregoing crops, information re areas sown or to be sown in barley was required to be furnished by growers. The subjoined estimates are based on the figures obtained by a tabulation of the cards returned.

  • On the average of the last five seasons (viz., 5·34 tons per acre) the total estimated yield from this area should approximate 118,500 tons, as against 116,771 tons last season.

It may be well to note that only holdings of 1 acre and over outside borough boundaries are covered by these figures. In the case of potatoes a fair amount is undoubtedly grown on the smaller holdings and on holdings situated within boroughs.

WITH reference to the notification gazetted on 7th February, 1924, respecting the valuation for the purposes of Customs duty of goods imported from Germany, Austria, or Hungary, it is hereby notified for public information that the Minister of Customs has decided to cancel, as from the 31st day of December, 1927, the provisions set out in the above-mentioned notification.

On and after the 1st day of January, 1928, the current domestic value of goods imported directly or indirectly from Germany, Austria, or Hungary, shall, subject to the provisions of section 143 of the Customs Act, 1913, be determined in accordance with section 114 of the Customs Act, 1913, as amended by the Customs Amendment Act, 1921, and the Customs Amendment Act, 1927.

Notice of Vesting of Land in the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II), Unclaimed Lands.

WHEREAS I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, have, for the purposes of Part II of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (relating to unclaimed lands), made due inquiries with respect to the land described in the Schedule hereunder, and the whereabouts of the owners thereof, and have, in respect of the said land, given the notices prescribed by section 66 of that Act, and have in all respects complied with the provisions of that Act pertinent hereto: And whereas I have not thereby ascertained the whereabouts of the owners and believe that such owners or any agents of such owners are not in the Dominion, nor has any of such owners established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act: I hereby give notice that the said land is, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publication hereof, and will be administered under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908; the value of the land for the purposes of section 67 (d) of the said Act being less than £500.

SCHEDULE.

FIRSTLY, those pieces of land situated at Harapepe, in the County of Raglan, in the Provincial District of Auckland, containing each one acre, being Allotments 24, 65, 66, 69, and 72, Town of Harapepe (or Harapi), originally granted by the Crown to Henry Jeffares, John Bidgood, Heinrich Pohlen, David Caughey, and James Quick Tristram, respectively; secondly, that piece of land situated as aforesaid, containing one acre, being Allotment 48, Town of Harapepe (or Harapi), conveyed to George Osborne by deed of conveyance registered in the Deeds Register Office at Auckland as No. 8340; and thirdly, that piece of land situated as aforesaid, containing one acre, being Allotment 68, Town of Harapepe (or Harapi), conveyed to Joseph Milligan by deed of conveyance registered as aforesaid as No. 433.

Notice by the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part III), and Amendments.

WHEREAS it has been reported to the Public Trustee that Uldrik Janson, also known as Albert Uldrik Janson, of Nelson, in the Provincial District of Nelson, in New Zealand, Mariner, is the owner of the following property, the total gross value of which is less than £1,000, namely: A life policy, Number 236537, in the New Zealand Government Life Insurance Department assuring the sum of £200 and bonuses (if any); a credit balance of £6 6s. 7d. in the Post Office Savings-bank under Account Number 541691, Wellington, together with interest (if any) accrued thereon; and sundry articles of clothing, jewellery, and personal effects, of little or no value:

And whereas it is not known where the said Uldrik Janson, also known as Albert Uldrik Janson, is, or whether he is alive or dead: And whereas it is provided by Part III of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (relating to unclaimed property), as amended by section 41 of the Public Trust Office Amendment Act, 1921-22, that where the value of unclaimed real or personal property does not exceed £1,000 the Public Trustee (with the consent of the Public Trust Office Board) may, by notice in the Gazette, declare his intention of taking possession of such property, and exercise the powers conferred on him by section 87 of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908, without
