THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—

Clarence Robert James Inder, Esquire,

to be the Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Otaki, for the purposes of the Legislature Act, 1908, as from the 10th day of October, 1927.

Theodore Grant Gray, Esquire, M.B., Bach. Surg.,

to be Inspector-General of Mental Defectives for the purposes of the Mental Defectives Act, 1911, as from the 1st day of October, 1927.

Appointments in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointments in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy:—

Commodore G. T. C. P. Swabey, D.S.O., to H.M.S. “Dunedin” in command, vice Wells, as Commodore Commanding the New Zealand Naval Station and the New Zealand Naval Forces, and as First Naval Member of the New Zealand Naval Board, to date from the date of the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Captain C. N. Reyne, A.D.C., R.N., to H.M.S. “Dunedin” for duty at Navy Office, Wellington, as Chief Staff Officer to the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station, and as temporary member of the New Zealand Naval Board under the provisions of Order in Council of 14th March, 1921, to date as from the date of the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Paymaster-Commander E. N. R. Fletcher, M.B.E., R.N. to H.M.S. “Dunedin,” additional and to that ship as Secretary to the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station and as Secretary to the New Zealand Naval Board, to date as from the date of the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Paymaster-Lieutenant J. Parrott, R.N. to H.M.S. “Dunedin,” additional for duty with Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station, to date as from the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Captain L. V. Wells, D.S.O., R.N. to H.M.S. “Dunedin,” additional to date 12th August, 1927, and to that ship in command, vice Ritchie, to date as from the date of joining.

Commander A. R. Farquhar, D.S.C., R.N., to H.M.S. “Dunedin,” vice Rowley, and as Squadron Navigating Officer, to date as from the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Lieutenant-Commander C. B. Graham-Watson, D.S.O., R.N., to H.M.S. “Dunedin” for duty as First Lieutenant, to date as from the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Lieutenant-Commander (N) H. A. Rowley, R.N., to H.M.S. “Diomede,” vice Farquhar, for navigating duty, to date from the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Lieutenant R. Hunter-Blair, D.S.C., R.N., to H.M.S. “Diomede,” to date as from the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Commissioned Telegraphist H. H. Rawlings, M.B.E., R.N. to H.M.S. “Dunedin” for W/T. Duties to date as from the transfer of the Broad Pendant of the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Naval Station to H.M.S. “Dunedin.”

Authorizing the Laying-off of a Road of less Width than 66 ft.

WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of Waihi Beach, affecting Waihi No. 3 Block and parts of Waihi Nos. 2 and 5 Blocks, in Block III, Waihi North Survey District, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that the roads shown therein and named the Terrace, Seaview, Pacific, School, Scarborough, and the Esplanade respectively, should be of the width of 66 ft.

Now, therefore, I, Alexander Donald McLeod, Minister of Lands, do hereby, in pursuance of the power conferred upon me by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of every other power me thereunto enabling, authorize the laying-off of such road of a width of 50 ft.: Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.
