Alterations to Scale of Charges in force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1926, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Railways, do hereby made the following alterations in the scale of charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic made on the 10th day of August, 1925, and published in the Gazette of 11th August, 1925; and I do hereby declare that such alterations shall come into force on the 25th August, 1927.
PART I.—PASSENGERS.
By omitting the following :—
10. School Boarders.
Tickets, available for return for two months from date of issue, will be issued at stations in the vicinity of the school in each case, at three-fourths of the ordinary return fare, to school boarders who are attending school for the purpose of receiving bona fide educational instruction, and who are solely engaged in their studies, and not following any occupation or employment, or in receipt of any salary or emolument therefrom, returning home for holidays within seven days after the end of recognized school terms only. Applicant must hand to the Stationmaster a certificate in the following form, signed by the master or mistress of the school :—
To the Stationmaster at
I hereby certify that __ is a bona fide school boarder attending my school solely for the purpose of receiving educational instruction; that __ is not following any employment, or in receipt of salary or emolument from any occupation; that __ present age is __ years __ months, and that __ is going home from school on the __ day of __, 19, for __ holidays; and I request that you will issue a __-class return ticket accordingly, from Station to Station.

And substituting the following :—
10. Vacation Tickets.
- Students or scholars who are in regular daily attendance at universities, colleges, technical colleges, state or private schools, and who are not following any occupation or employment or in receipt of any salary or emolument therefrom shall, when travelling during the recognized school or college vacations, be issued with return tickets at the following fares :—
Under 12 years of age . . Half the holiday excursion fare. (Regulation 5, Part 1 of Tariff).
12 years of age and over . . The holiday excursion fare. (Regulation 5, Part 1 of Tariff).

Vacation tickets issued during the Christmas and New Year vacation will be available for two months, and such tickets issued during the remaining two vacations will be available for one month.

In each case the availability shall begin with and include the date shown on the ticket.

Vacation tickets will not be granted to students who only attend art, commercial, or other special classes.

These tickets will be issued on production of a certificate in the following form :—
To the Stationmaster
I hereby certify that __ is a bona fide student (scholar) in regular daily attendance at __ solely for the purpose of receiving bona fide educational instruction; that __ is not following any occupation or employment or in receipt of any salary or emolument therefrom; that __ present age is __ years __ months, and that __ is entitled to a ticket at vacation fares in terms of the Railway Department’s regulations.
Period of vacation: From __ to __.
