  1. Milk, cream, and milk or cream cans will be carried at the owner’s risk in all respects, and the owner of any milk or cream or of any milk or cream cans being carried on the Board’s railway shall be responsible for all the loading and unloading of the same.

  2. The Board hereby fixes the fares and rates of freight set out in the following Schedule :-

SCHEDULE.

Fares and Rates of Freight for the carriage of Passengers and Goods on the Ohai Railway Board’s Railway.

  1. Ordinary Tickets.

Children not exceeding three years of age travel free.
Children over three years of age and not exceeding twelve years of age travel at half rates.

Single tickets for local journeys at ordinary fares will be available for day of issue only.

Return tickets for local journeys at ordinary fares will be available for two days.

Ordinary tickets for local journeys will not be available for break of journey.

Through tickets which entitle the holders to travel over specified portions of the New Zealand Government lines in addition to the Board’s line will, on the Board’s line, be subject to the Department’s regulations applicable to break of journey and period of availability.

  1. Workers’ Twelve-trip Tickets.

Twelve-trip tickets, for use on trains timed to run between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on stated days will be charged as follows :-

Workers’ twelve-trip tickets are available for a fortnight, including day of issue, and are not transferable or available for break of journey.

  1. School Season Tickets.

Season tickets available for fourteen weeks will be issued to scholars and students holding school season tickets issued by the New Zealand Government Railways entitling the holders to travel from Wairoa to stations on the Department’s lines.

They will be available for travel from the date and on the day corresponding with the season ticket issued to the holder by the Railway Department, and will be charged as follows :-

  1. School Boarders’ Fourteen-trip Tickets.

Fourteen-trip tickets will be issued to school boarders holding school season tickets issued by the New Zealand Government Railways, entitling the holders to travel from Wairoa to stations on the Department’s lines.

They will be charged for at the following rates :-

School boarders’ fourteen-trip tickets are available for seven weeks including day of issue, and are not transferable or available for break of journey.

  1. Passengers’ Luggage.

Passengers are allowed to take with them free of charge 112 lb. weight each (children travelling on half-tickets, 56 lb.) of personal luggage or goods for their own domestic use.

Workpeople travelling to or from work will be allowed to take free of charge (in addition to 112 lb. of bona fide personal luggage) up to 112 lb. weight of work-tools or work which they do at their homes.

For every 112 lb. or fraction of 112 lb. above the weight allowed the charge will be 1s.

  1. Parcels.

Parcels will be charged for at the rate of 6d. for each 56 lb. or fraction of 56 lb. up to 224 lb.

  1. Newspapers.

Single newspapers will be charged 1d. each.
Packages of newspapers will be charged 3d. each.

  1. Bicycles.

Bicycles (pedal), whether booked or accompanying passengers will be charged 9d. each.

Bicycles (motor), whether booked or accompanying passengers will be charged 3s. each.

Bicycles (motor) with side-car attached will be treated as motor-cars.

  1. Dogs.

Dogs, whether booked or accompanying passengers, will be charged 9d. each.

Puppies or slut and puppies properly secured in hampers, crates, or boxes, so as to prevent injury to other goods will be charged at parcel rates.

  1. Milk or Cream.

Milk or cream will be charged 6d. per can.
Empty milk or cream cans being returned will be carried free.

  1. Corpses.

The charge for the conveyance of corpses will be 15s. each.

  1. Goods.

Goods will be classified according to the classification set out from time to time in Part V of the Scale of Charges upon the New Zealand Government Railways :-

(1.) Goods of classes A, B, C, and D (consigned to stations except Nightcaps) will be charged at the rate of 5s. per ton. Minimum charge, 1s. 6d.

(2.) Goods of classes E, N, and P (consigned to stations except Nightcaps) will be charged at the rate of 3s. 4d. per ton. Minimum charge 1s. 6d.

(3.) Goods of classes A, B, C, D, E, N, and P, consigned to Nightcaps, will be charged at the rate of 1s. 8d. per ton. Dangerous goods will be charged at the rate of 3s. 4d. per ton. Minimum charge, 1s. 6d.

(4.) Goods of Classes F and Q will be charged at the rate of 1s. 8d. per ton. Minimum charge, 1s. 6d.

(5.) Lime for Manuring Farm Lands.—Lime booked through to stations on the Board’s line and conveyed free of charge for any distance on the Government line will be carried free on the Board’s line.

  1. Goods of Class R will be charged for at rates as arranged from time to time.

(7.) Goods of Class H will be charged 6d. per bale.

(8.) Goods of Class K will be charged 8d. per 100 super feet. Minimum charge, 1s. 6d. In computing the charges for timber 50 ft. or under will be foregone; over 50 ft. will be charged as the next 100 ft.

(9.) Live-stock.—Goods of Class M (by arrangement) will be charged 10s. per four-wheeled wagon. Bogie trucks will be charged double rates.

  1. Road Vehicles.

Carriages, motor-vehicles, carts, drays, express wagons, and wagons will be charged 7s. per four-wheeled wagon. Bogie trucks will be charged double rates.

  1. Returned Empties.

Returned empties will be charged 6d. per cwt.

  1. Weighing.

When weights are supplied to any persons requiring them the charge will be 3d. per ton. Minimum charge, 6d.

  1. General.

Fractions of less than 1 cwt. in the tonnage will be taken as follows :-
Under ¼ cwt. as ¼ cwt.
Over ¼ cwt. but not over ½ cwt. as ½ cwt.
Over ½ cwt. but not over ¾ cwt. as ¾ cwt.
Over ¾ cwt. but not over 1 cwt. as 1 cwt.

Except where otherwise specified, in computing rates and charges, any fraction less than ½d. in the result will be omitted; ½d. or more will be taken as 1d.

In computing rates and charges odd fractions of a mile amounting to 5 chains and over will be taken as an additional mile; less than 5 chains will be omitted.

The foregoing by-law was duly made by special order passed at a meeting of the Ohai Railway Board held on the 12th day of November, 1926, and confirmed at a meeting of the said Board held this day at which last-mentioned meeting, the 20th day of December, 1926, was fixed as the day on which the said by-law should come into force.
