Appointment in the Public Service.

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointment in the Public Service :—

Robert Fraser, Esquire,

to be Harbourmaster for the Port of Brighton, Dunedin, for the purposes of the Harbours Act, 1923, as from the 27th day of May, 1927.

Destruction of Deer.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22 (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following imported game—viz., red deer and fallow deer—may be taken or killed within any acclimatization district, subject to the following conditions.


CONDITIONS.

  1. NOTWITHSTANDING anything contained in the said Act, the secretary of any acclimatization society, or any person or persons duly authorized in writing by any such secretary may, during the period hereinafter mentioned, kill within the district of that society red deer and fallow deer of either sex and of any age which, in the opinion of the said secretary or of the said authorized persons, should be destroyed.

  2. Such deer may be destroyed as aforesaid during a period of twelve months from the date hereof.

  3. A return shall be furnished to the Minister of Internal Affairs by the secretary of each acclimatization society, within one calendar month after the expiry of the aforesaid period, and such return shall state the number (if any) and sex of all deer so destroyed as aforesaid, the dates, and names of persons by whom, and the locality in which the deer were destroyed.

  4. The head or antlers of any stag, or the venison or skins of any deer, taken or killed pursuant to this Warrant may be disposed of subject to the regulations made under the said Act by Order in Council dated the 1st day of February, 1924, and gazetted on the 7th day of the same month.

  5. Any person who commits a breach of any of the provisions of these regulations is liable to a penalty not exceeding £20.

  6. For the purposes of these regulations, “acclimatization society” includes, in respect of the Rotorua Acclimatization District, the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts; and references to the secretary of an acclimatization society shall be deemed to include the General Manager of that Department.

Special Order passed by the Upper Hutt Borough Council declaring certain Plants to be Noxious Weeds.—Notice No. Ag. 2656.

THE following special order, passed by the Upper Hutt Borough Council at a special meeting held on the 29th March, 1927, and confirmed at an ordinary meeting on the 3rd May, 1927, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Act.

SPECIAL ORDER.

IN exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, the Upper Hutt Borough Council hereby resolves and declares, by way of special order, that the plants mentioned in the Schedule hereto (being plants mentioned in the Third Schedule to the said Act, as extended from time to time by the Governor-General in Council) are noxious weeds within the Borough of Upper Hutt.

SCHEDULE.

Broom, fennel, foxglove, gorse, lupin, ox-eye daisy, pennyroyal, periwinkle, St. John’s wort, tauhinu, tutsan, and goat’s rue.


Appointing Saturday as the Statutory Closing-day in the Borough of Morrinsville.

WHEREAS a poll to determine the statutory closing-day in the Borough of Morrinsville was duly taken under the authority of section 20 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, on the 27th day of April, 1927 :

And whereas the Town Clerk of the Borough of Morrinsville has notified me that the majority of the votes given at such poll were in favour of the appointment of Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the said borough :

Now, therefore, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 20 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, do hereby appoint Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the said borough as from the 30th day of May, 1927.

Dated at Wellington, this 25th day of May, 1927.

And whereas the Town Clerk of the Borough of Waipukurau has notified me that the majority of the votes given at such poll were in favour of the appointment of Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the said borough :

Now, therefore, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 20 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, do hereby appoint Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the said borough as from the 30th day of May, 1927.

Cancellation of Notice under the Shops and Offices Act fixing the Closing-hours of Drapers’, Clothiers’, and Mercers’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) draper, (b) clothier, and (c) mercer within the City of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the notice dated the 3rd July, 1917, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of 5th July, 1917, fixing the closing-hours of drapers’, clothiers’, and mercers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui be cancelled :

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said city :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that the notice dated the 3rd July, 1917, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th July, 1917, fixing the closing hours of drapers’, clothiers’, and mercers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date hereof.

Dated at Wellington, this 28th day of May, 1927.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the watchmakers and jewellers’ shops within the City of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the notice dated the 27th June, 1917, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th July, 1917, fixing the closing-hours of watchmakers and jewellers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui, be cancelled :

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said city :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that the notice dated the 27th June, 1917, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th July, 1917, fixing the closing-hours of watchmakers and jewellers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date hereof.
