Open Season for Native Game, License Fee, &c., Ashburton Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 2nd day of May to the 31st day of July, 1927 (both days inclusive) to be an open season in the Ashburton Acclimatization District, as described in the Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3, for the taking or killing of the following imported and native game—viz., Californian quail, grey duck, and black swan; and the period from the 2nd day of May to the 8th day of May, 1927 (both days inclusive) for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., paradise duck and pukeko; subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. LICENSES to take or kill such native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the secretary of the Ashburton Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

  2. The number of such native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty-five head in all of grey duck, pukeko, and black swan, and five head of paradise duck.

  3. Nothing in any license to take or kill native game shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill native game on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain.

  4. No person shall kill or destroy any such native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

  5. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.

  6. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any one time (whether by one or several persons) on any particular water within an area of 100 yards square.

  7. No person shall use any power boat or launch in connection with the taking or killing of imported or native game.

  8. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded on the north-west by the summit of the Southern Alps; on the north-east by the Rakaia River from its mouth to its source at Whitcombe Pass; on the south-east by the sea; and on the south-west generally by the middle of the Rangitata River to Forest Creek, by the Forest Creek to its source in the Two Thumbs Range; thence by a line along the summit of the Two Thumbs Range to the summit of the Southern Alps, the point of commencement.

Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fees, &c., Auckland Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 2nd day of May to the 31st day of July, 1927 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Auckland Acclimatization District, as described in the Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 for the taking or killing of the following imported and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian quail and Australian quail, grey duck, spoonbill duck, and black swan; and the period from the 2nd day of May to the 31st day of May, 1927 (both days inclusive) to be an open season in that part of the said district consisting of the Counties of Waipa and Piako for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., pukeko; and the period from the 2nd day of January to the 31st day of March, 1928 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits and knots—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game, including godwits and knots, within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and licenses to take or kill the following native game only—viz., godwits and knots—will be issued to any person on payment of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the secretary of the Auckland Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

  2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed nine cock pheasants, and twenty-five head in all of grey duck, spoonbill duck, pukeko, and black swan.

  3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits and knots (or the following native game only—viz., godwits and knots), shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits and knots (or godwits and knots only), on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

  4. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any one time (whether by one or several persons) on any particular water within an area of less than 100 yards square.

  5. No person shall use any power-boat or launch in connection with the taking or killing of imported or native game.

SCHEDULE.

All that area in the North Auckland, Auckland, Taranaki, and Wellington Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Mokau River, and proceeding thence along high-water mark, Tasman Sea, in a northerly direction generally (crossing the mouths of all harbours and rivers by the way) to the Kaipara Harbour entrance to a point midway between Kaipara Heads; thence up the centre of the channels, Kaipara Harbour, and up the middle of the Oruawharo, Topuni, and Hakaru Rivers to the southern boundary of Allotment 65, Parish of Mangawai; thence along the southern boundaries of Allotments 65, 64, 61, 60, 57, 56, 51, and 50, along the eastern boundary of said Allotment 50, the southern and eastern boundaries of Allotment 78, the eastern boundary of Allotments 16, 31, and 15; thence along the middle of a stream to the Mangawhai Harbour; thence along the middle of that harbour to the sea; thence along high-water mark of the sea, Hauraki Gulf and Firth of Thames (crossing the mouths of all harbours and rivers by the way), to the mouth of the Waikawau River in Block VI, Hastings Survey District; thence up the middle of that river to its source, and along a right line from said source to Northhead, Tairua Harbour; thence southerly along high-water mark, Bay of Plenty (crossing the mouths of all harbours and rivers by the way), to the mouth of the Waihi River, in Block III, Waihi North Survey District; thence south-westerly along a right line to Mount Te Aroha Trig. Station; thence north-easterly along a right line (in the direction of Ngakuriawhare Trig. Station, Block 1, Katikati North) to the western boundary of the Tauranga Confiscation Block; thence south-easterly by a right line from hill to hill along the summit of the range forming the western boundary of the aforesaid Tauranga Confiscation Block and passing over Ngatamahinerau, Mimiotohanga, and Waianuanu to Te Weraiti Trig. Station; thence south-easterly along a right line to Puwhenua Trig. Station (in Block VII, Tapapa East Survey District); thence south-westerly along a right line to Rangitoto Mountain; thence south-easterly along a right line to the source of the Ongaruhe River; thence southerly along a mountain range passing through Weraroa, Tuhingamata, Motere, and Hauhangaroa
