Rear: White, situated on a cleared patch elevated about
170ft. on the side of the hill behind the Residency.
These beacons, in transit 160½°, provide a leading course
on which to approach the anchorage.
2. Anchorage Beacons, 367 yards apart :—
Front: Triangular, black and white stripes, installed on
the shore-line of a small island on the reef off Avatiu
Harbour, situated 295½° 940 yards from the Administra-
tration Office flagstaff.
Rear: Black and white chequered with a 6 ft. square top
mark, situated on the foreshore near Donald’s store.
These beacons, in transit 247° provide a “cut off” line
for anchoring.
3. The anchorage is in 23 fathoms of water, about 50 yards
from the edge of the deep water, and is marked by a buoy.
4. The light on the wireless mast has now been confirmed
as becoming obscure when bearing 049°.

Discoloured Water reported.
THE master of s.s. “Waihemo” reports having, on
November 4th, 1926, whilst on a voyage from San
Francisco to Suva, passed a patch of discoloured water with
a small break on it and a white scum, covering an area of
about two cables in latitude 10° 18’ south, longitude 172° 26’
west. A moderate confused swell and very little wind existed
at the time.

Marsden Point Light to be discontinued and Wharf to be
demolished.
NOTICE is hereby given that on the evening of
Wednesday, 15th December, 1926, the existing fixed
white light exhibited at Marsden Point wharf will be per-
manently discontinued, after which this wharf is to be
demolished.

Raoul, or Sunday Island ; now inhabited.
INFORMATION has been received that inhabitants are
now located at the northern side of Raoul, or Sunday
Island.
It is intended the inhabitants shall hoist a flag on a flag-
staff at Fleetwood Bluff if they desire assistance from a
passing vessel.

HARBOUR.

Wellington, N.Z., 1st December, 1926.
Dredger to operate.
THE Otago Harbour Board notify that from the 10th
December, 1926, for a period of several months,
Dredge “222” will be operating in the vicinity of the
Steamer’s Basin, between Rattray and Birch Street wharves,
Dunedin.
The dredger has moorings laid out fore and aft and athwart
the basin and vessels navigating in the vicinity must exercise
care to avoid fouling the moorings.
