of the owner or occupier of such building, then such owner or occupier shall pay to the Board for attendance and service the undermentioned rates as fixed by the Board not exceeding—

For each hour or part of an hour— £ s. d.

The said charges to be calculated as from the time the brigade leaves the station until it returns.

  1. If any brigade or any portion of any brigade established and maintained by the Board within the fire district of Gisborne attends or performs any services at a fire on any vessel at the request of the owner, agent, or other duly authorized person, such owner or other duly authorized person shall pay to the Board for such attendance and service, the rates as set forth in paragraph 28 of these by-laws.

PENALTY CLAUSES.

Every person guilty of an offence against, or committing any breach of, or failing to perform any duty imposed upon him by any of the provisions of these by-laws shall be liable for such offence, breach, or failure to such a fine not exceeding £20 as the Court inflicting the same shall in its discretion think fit.

The foregoing by-laws were made by the Gisborne Fire Board at a duly constituted meeting of the said Board held on Friday, 10th September, 1926.

The common seal of the Gisborne Fire Board was affixed hereto by order of the Board this 10th day of September, 1926, in the presence of—

THE following result of the election of a member of the Masterton, Otaki, and Pahiatua Fire Boards by fire-insurance companies has been reported to the Minister of Internal Affairs, and is notified in accordance with the rules under the Fire Brigades Act, 1908 :—

NOTICE is hereby given that His Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 54 of the Land Act, 1924, approved of meetings of the Auckland Land Board being held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland,

at 10 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, 25th January; Tuesday, 22nd February; Tuesday, 29th March; Wednesday, 27th April; Tuesday, 24th May; Tuesday, 28th June; Tuesday, 26th July; Tuesday, 30th August; Tuesday, 27th September; Wednesday, 26th October; Tuesday, 29th November; Tuesday, 13th December, during the year 1927.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers’ and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops within the Borough of Rotorua.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Rotorua, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to closing not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing-day, from 1st January to 30th April (both days inclusive) and from 1st November to 31st December (both days inclusive), on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 8.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 p.m., and from 1st May to 31st October (both days inclusive) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 8 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 p.m., with the following exceptions: (1) During the period 20th December to 8th January (both days inclusive) there shall be no fixed closing-hour; (2) on the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday and on the Thursday immediately preceding any of the following days, viz., Anzac Day, King’s Birthday, and Labour Day, when such day falls on a Friday, the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.; and (3) should the occupier of a shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day in any week the closing-hour on Friday in that week for such shop shall be 10 p.m.:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of November, 1926, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Rotorua shall be closed accordingly.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Rotorua of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.

WHEREAS a petition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Rotorua has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, tobacco, cigarettes, and cigars—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of November, 1926, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: From 1st January to 30th April (both days inclusive) and from 1st November to 31st December (both days inclusive), on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 8.30 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 10 p.m., and from 1st May to 31st October (both days inclusive), on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 8 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 10 p.m., with the following exceptions: (1) During the period 20th December to 8th January (both days inclusive) the sale of the said goods is not prohibited; (2) on the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday and on the Thursday immediately preceding any of the following days, viz., Anzac Day, King’s Birthday, and Labour Day, when such day falls on a Friday, the sale of the said goods is prohibited after the hour of 10 p.m.
