NOTES.—Increases due to attendants and nurses below the rank of Senior are according to scale and subject to qualifying in their respective grades. Where the services of attendants and nurses who have not passed the Junior Examination at the end of their first year, and do not pass this examination until after eighteen months’ service, are retained, the first increment of salary will date from the passing of the examination, and subsequent increments from the anniversary thereof.

REFERENCES (except where otherwise stated the amount shown with the reference letter is to be deducted from the amount shown in the salary column): a, Board and lodging; b, free meals when on duty; c, residence only; d, in addition, to receive residence, fuel, and light valued at £150 per annum; e, residence, fuel, and light, valued at £75 per annum; f, residence, fuel, and light, valued at £60 per annum; g, residence, fuel, and light, valued at £15 per annum; h, receiving extra salary as married (or widowed with dependent children); i, privileged to purchase from institution store at cost price as part payment in commuting former system of free maintenance; j, further increment subject to passing Junior Examination; k, subject to qualifying; l, to receive £10 per annum allowance while acting as Deputy Charge; m, to receive allowance of £35 per annum while acting as Charge, provided that in no case shall the effect of the payment be to increase the cash payment beyond the minimum cash salary of a Charge Nurse; n, over scale, payment for special services or qualifications.
