Captain, and is attached to the 7th N.Z. Mounted Rifles
(Wellington East Coast) for service as Regimental Medical
Officer. Dated 23rd June, 1926.
Captain A. McP. Marshall, M.B., is appointed Deputy Assistant
Director of Medical Services for Otago and Southland Districts (R.D.s 11 and 12), and is granted the temporary rank
of Major while so employed. Dated 19th June, 1926.
N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.
The Reverend H. L. Blamires, Chaplain 3rd Class, is transferred to the Reserve List, Class II, R.D. 10. Dated 26th
June, 1926.
The Reverend J. D. McL. Wilson, Chaplain 3rd Class, is transferred from Southern Command (R.D. 10) to Central Command (R.D. 8). Dated 16th June, 1926.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, prohibiting
the Sale within the Borough of Shannon of certain Goods
comprised in the Trade of a Grocer.
WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the
Borough of Shannon, has been forwarded to me, desiring
that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a
grocer—namely, tea, tinned fish and fruits, cordials, vinegar,
sugar, rice, arrowroot, allspice, almonds, blacking, black lead,
blue, bovril, bird-seed, baking-powder, borax, bluestone,
cream-of-tartar, creamoata, cocoa, coffee and coffee essence,
candles, celery salts, custard-powder, coconut (desiccated),
cornflours, capers, curries, currants, coffee-beans, cloves,
carbonate of soda, carroways, chillies, orange, lemon, and
citron peels, culinary essences, flour, granose, ground spices,
whole spices, gravies, gelatine, ginger, golden syrup, hops,
honey, haricot beans, jams, jellies, lemon-cheese, lux, lentils,
limejuice, macaroni, milk oaties, mustard, marmalade,
marmite, nutmegs, olive and salad oils, oatina, oatmeal,
pepper, pearl barley, patent barley and groats, pickling spices,
fish-paste, rennet, rolled oats, soda crystals, soaps, soups in
tins or jars, starch, semolina, seeded and other raisins, sultanas, salt, salmon in tins, sardines in tins, sandsoap, sago,
split peas, pea-flour, tartaric acid, citric acid, tumeric, treacle,
tapioca, vermicelli, venetian red, washing-powders, caustic
soda, washing-soda—be prohibited during such times as the
said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the
Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour,
am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in
the trade of a grocer within the said district, and that the
signatures to such petition represent a majority of the
occupiers of all the said shops within the said district :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act,
I do hereby direct that on and after the 26th day of July,
1926, the sale of the said goods in the Borough of Shannon
shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows—On Mondays,
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of
5.30 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of
8 p.m.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, fixing the
Closing-hours of Hairdressers and Tobacconists’ Shops
within the Borough of Whakatane.
WHEREAS pursuant to section 32 (5) of the Shops and
Offices Act, 1921–22, His Excellency the Governor-General has, by Order in Council dated the 1st day of September, 1924, grouped the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2)
tobacconist commonly carried on together in the Borough of
Whakatane as the trade of hairdresser and tobacconist :
And whereas a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the hairdressers and tobacconists’
shops within the said borough has been forwarded to me,
desiring that all such shops within the borough be closed in
the evening of working-days as follows—On Mondays,
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) In the
case of a shop that is closed for the statutory closing-day on
Saturday the closing-hour on Wednesdays shall be 6 p.m.,
and on Fridays 10.30 p.m. ; (2) on the working-day that
first precedes Christmas Day and on the working-day that
first precedes New Year’s Day there shall be no fixed closing-hour :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour,
am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent
a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said
borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and
Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the
26th day of July, 1926, all the hairdressers and tobacconists’
shops within the Borough of Whakatane shall be closed
accordingly.
The notice dated the 9th September, 1924, and published
in the New Zealand Gazette of the 11th September, 1924,
fixing the closing-hours of hairdressers and tobacconists’
shops in the Borough of Whakatane is hereby cancelled as
from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
