The total births registered for the urban areas amounted to 1,033, as against 1,099 in April—a decrease of 66. The deaths in May were 483—an increase of 26, as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 248, females 235. Sixty-five of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 13·46 per cent. of the whole number. Forty-six of these were under one year of age.

The equivalent annual rates per 1,000 of mean population for May, 1926, and five months ended May, 1926, were as follows. The infantile-mortality rate per 100 births for the same period is also given.
