Results of Polls for Proposed Loans.

Wellington, 20th March, 1926.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Timaru, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

W. NOSWORTHY, Minister of Finance.

BOROUGH OF TIMARU.

Loan of £9,500.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Timaru taken on the 13th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Timaru Borough Council to borrow the sum of £9,500 for the purpose of purchasing additional motor-buses and other plant and erecting buildings in the Borough of Timaru, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 979, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 568.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Loan of £9,750.

Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Timaru taken on the 13th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Timaru Borough Council to borrow the sum of £9,750 for purchasing Te Upookoraitauheke Native Reserve 884, in the Borough of Timaru, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 872, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 680.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Castlepoint, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Castlepoint taken on the 12th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Castlepoint County Council to borrow the sum of £2,500 for the purpose of providing the Castlepoint County Council’s portion of the cost of constructing a bridge and approaches thereto over the Mangapakoha Stream at Awatea, on the Masterton—Weber Junction to Tinui Highway,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 102; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 3.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Wairarapa South, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

Loan of £2,400.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers within the Maungaraki Riding of the County of Wairarapa South (being a legal subdivision of the said county) taken on the 12th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Wairarapa South County Council to borrow the sum of £2,400 for the purpose of acquiring land and erecting three roadmen’s cottages at Admiral, Te Wharau, and Ahiaruhe in the Maungaraki Riding of the said county,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 76; the number of votes recorded against the said proposal was 23.

I therefore declare that the said proposal was carried.

Loan of £1,000.

Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers within the Tea Creek Bridge Special-rating Area of the Belvedere Riding of the County of Wairarapa South taken on the 12th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Wairarapa South County Council to borrow the sum of £1,000 for the purpose of erecting a bridge-traffic over the Maungatarere River on the Tea Creek Road,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 3; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 8.

I therefore declare that the said proposal was rejected.

Loan of £9,000.

Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the County of Wairarapa South taken on the 12th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Wairarapa South County Council to borrow the sum of £9,000 for the purpose of providing the county’s proportion of preliminary preparation of road, renewal of bridges and culverts, and surfacing by the bitumen-penetration method that portion of the Wellington—Napier Highway No. 15 as lies between the Waihoine and Waingawa Rivers in the County of Wairarapa South (excluding that portion within the Carterton Borough), and for the purpose of purchasing such machinery as may be required to carry into effect the aforementioned purpose,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 231; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 97; informal, 3.

I therefore declare the proposal carried.

COUNTY OF WAIROA.

Loan of £10,000.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Wairoa taken on the 12th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Wairoa County Council to borrow the sum of £10,000 for the purpose of construction, reconstruction, and improvement of main highways and for the renewal of Waikokopu and Waimaunu Bridges on the Nuhaka—Waikokopu Road the number of votes recorded was as follows:—

For the proposal, 510; against the proposal, 117; informal, 1.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Loan of £3,600.

Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Mangapoike Special-rating District taken on the 12th May, 1926, on the proposal of the Wairoa County Council to borrow the sum of £3,600 for the purpose of metalling about 5 miles 18 chains of the Mangapoike Road, the number of votes recorded was as follows:—

For the proposal, 13; against the proposal, 18.

I therefore declare the proposal was lost.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Thames Valley Electric-power Board, taken on the 12th day of May, 1926, on the proposal of the Thames Valley Electric-power Board to borrow the sum of £150,000 for the purchase and construction of electric works within the meaning of and pursuant to the Electric-power Boards Act, 1925,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 1,236; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 806.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
