Notice to Mariners No. 18 of 1926.

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.
COOK STRAIT.—WESTERN ENTRANCE.—FAREWELL SPIT.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 22nd April, 1926.

Spit-end reported to be extending.

CAPTAIN F. L. Vicker man, s.s. “Titoki” reports the position of the end of Farewell Spit to have altered considerably, and that its present position is not in agreement with that as shown on existing copies of Admiralty Chart No. 2616, inasmuch as he has observed shallow water to exist with Farewell Spit Lighthouse bearing W.N.W. (magnetic).

The attention of mariners is drawn to the cautionary paragraph on page 281 of the “New Zealand Pilot,” 9th edition, 1919; and care should be exercised that the Spit-end is not approached unduly close until this locality has been properly examined.

Publications affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 2616 and 3629; “New Zealand Pilot,” 9th edition, 1919, pages 280 and 281.

G. C. GODFREY, Secretary.
