Notice to Mariners No. 13 of 1926.
DOMINION OF NEW ZEALAND.—CHATHAM ISLANDS.—PETRE BAY.—WAITANGI.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 29th March, 1926.
Light installed on Wireless Tower.
INFORMATION is hereby given that a fixed white light, unwatched, height 300 ft. (approx.), visible 6 miles, is exhibited at the steel-lattice wireless-tower situated near Waitangi. The light, which is electric, 160 c.p., is elevated 88 ft. above ground; and is visible to vessels approaching Waitangi from seaward.
Attention is drawn to the position of the steel-lattice wireless-tower, which, on Admiralty Chart No. 1417 (corrected to 1923) should be latitude 43° 57·5′ south; longitude 176° 32·2′ west; whereas a recent (1924) determination of its position places it at latitude 43° 57′ 27·7″ south, longitude 176° 34′ 25·3″ west; the latter position, which was determined by this Dominion’s Department of Lands and Survey, may be accepted as precise.

THE following navigation warning, which was broadcasted by wireless by Radio Apia, on the 24th March, 1926, is repeated hereunder for the information of mariners:—
“Apia lower leading light has been altered from fixed red to flashing white two seconds.”
This navigation warning evidently has reference to Apia front leading beacon light, which is exhibited from a white and red tower situated near Muliwai River entrance, in latitude 13° 49′ S., longitude 171° 45·5′ W. (approx.).
Further information will be published when such becomes available.
