clusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

  1. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

  2. Shooting may begin not earlier than half an hour before sunrise and must cease not later than half an hour after sunset.

  3. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded by a line commencing at Mount Cook, and proceeding thence along the summits of the Southern Alps and the Two Thumbs Range to the source of the Forest Creek; thence down that stream and the middle of the Rangitata River to the sea; thence along the sea-coast to the Pareora River, and up the Pareora River to its source; by a right line to the summit of Mount Nimrod; thence by a right line to Trig. Station F; thence northerly along the summit of the range to Trig. K; thence by a line due west to the Hakataramea River; thence up the Hakataramea River and Dalgety Creek to Hakataramea Pass, thence by a right line passing through Trig. Station N1 to Stony Stream; thence down Stony Stream to the Waitaki River; and on the west by a line up the middle of the Waitaki and Pukaki Rivers to Pukaki Lake; thence up the middle of Pukaki Lake to the Tasman River; thence up the middle of the Tasman River to the Tasman Glacier; thence along the western boundary of the said Tasman Glacier to a point in line with a line from Mount Cook and passing through Ball Hut; thence by that line to Mount Cook and the summit of the Southern Alps, the place of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Area, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season wherein imported game and native game, or native game only, shall not be taken or killed:—

Mackenzie County Council’s hydro-electric dam at Fairlie.

Open Season for Native Game, License Fee, &c., Southland Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 30th day of June, 1926 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Southland Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., grey duck, spoonbill duck (or shoveller), and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of May to 7th day of May, 1926 (both days inclusive) to be an open season in that part of the said district comprising all that area bounded on the east by the railway-line from Kingston to Lumsden, on the south by the road from Lumsden to Manapouri, on the west by the Fiordland National Park, and on the north by the Lakes Acclimatization District, for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., paradise duck and pukeko; and the period from the 1st day of February to the 31st day of March, 1927 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits; subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. LICENSES to take or kill such native game (including godwits) will be issued to any person on payment of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the secretary of the Southland Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

  2. The number of such native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty head in all of grey duck, spoonbill duck (or shoveller), and black swan, and six head each of paradise duck and pukeko.

  3. Nothing in any license to take or kill native game (including godwits) shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill native game (including godwits) on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society or acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

  4. No person shall kill or destroy any such native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun: and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

  5. A license issued pursuant to this notification to take or kill imported and native game (or native game only) shall entitle the owner thereof to take or kill native game in the Otago Acclimatization District during the period and subject, mutatis mutandis, to the conditions prescribed in the notification fixing an open season for native game in that district.

  6. Shooting may begin half an hour before sunrise and must cease half an hour after sunset.

  7. No person shall use more than twenty-five decoys.

  8. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Southland Land District bounded by a line commencing at the head of Bligh Sound and proceeding thence along a right line passing through Cloudy Pass and Castle Mount to the summit of the range forming the eastern watershed of the Clinton River; thence southerly along the summit of that range to Mount Eglington; along a right line to Round Peaks; along the summit of the western watershed of Lake Wakatipu to Jane Peak; thence along a right line to Eyre Peak, and down the middle of the Mataura River to the sea; thence westerly and northerly generally along the sea-coast to the point of commencement: including all adjacent islands, together with Stewart Island and the islands adjacent thereto.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season wherein native game shall not be taken or killed:—

  1. Section 27, Block IV, Invercargill Hundred.

  2. Sections 19, 20, 32, 37, 43, and parts 9 and 11, Block IV, Campbelltown Hundred (Mr. Thomas Maclean’s property).

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1926 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Stratford Acclimatization District, as described in the Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian quail, black teal, grey duck, and black swan—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and the Postmasters at Stratford, Toko, Midhirst, Whangamomona, Ngaere, and Te Wera are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

  2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twelve cock pheasants, and twenty-five head in all of black teal, grey duck, and black swan.

  3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain.
