Approval of Fees for Licensing of Vehicles fixed by By-laws.—
Hokianga County Council.

Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 19th January, 1925.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 109 of the Counties Act, 1920, that so much of the by-laws made by the Hokianga County Council and sealed on the 7th day of January, 1925, as appoints the several sums to be paid to the Hokianga County funds for the licensing of vehicles plying for hire has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor-General.

Defining River and Extended-river Limits for Tairua.

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the 18th day of August, 1922, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 63, of the 24th day of the same month, river and extended-river limits for certain ports were defined:

And whereas it is desirable to revoke the limits therein defined in respect of the port of Tairua, and to make others in lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 189 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Marine, do hereby revoke the hereinbefore-recited Warrant of the 18th day of August, 1922, in so far as it defines river and extended-river limits for the Port of Tairua, but not further or otherwise, and in lieu thereof do hereby define the Tairua limits within which restricted-limits steamships and ships propelled by gas, oil, fluid, electricity, or any mechanical power other than steam, and to which restricted-limits certificates are issued, may ply to be those set forth herein, and I do divide such limits into river and extended-river limits.

River limits: Inside Paku Head.

Extended-river limits: Commencing from a position on the mainland northward of Tairua Harbour by a straight line 090° to the northern extreme of Shoe Island, thence by a straight line to the north-western extreme of Slipper Island, thence by a straight line to a position on the mainland situated 270° from the southern extreme of Rabbit Island.

Prescribing Extended-river Limits for Moehau Peninsula.

Marine Department,
Wellington, 26th January, 1925.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 189 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Marine, do hereby define the limits in respect of Moehau Peninsula, within which restricted-limit steamships, and ships propelled by gas, oil, fluid, electricity, or any mechanical power other than steam, and to which restricted-limit certificates are issued, may ply, to be as follows:—

River limits: Nil.

Extended-river limits: All the navigable waters contained within the area having for its seaward boundary the following lines—Commencing at the northern extreme of the southern entrance point of Colville Bay on the western side of Moehau Peninsula; thence by a straight line drawn 270° for a distance of three miles; thence by a sinuous line maintaining a distance of three miles from the shore complying with the contour of Moehau Peninsula on its western, northern, and eastern sides to a position on the shore three miles eastward of the eastern extreme of the western entrance point of Whangapua River.

Duty on Certain Oils.

Customs Department,
Wellington, 23rd January, 1925.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Minister of Customs has been asked to impose a duty of 4d. per gallon on the following oils when not the produce or manufacture of some part of the British dominions, viz.:—

Oils in vessels capable of containing one gallon or more, viz.—fish n.e.i., whale, seal, and dugong oils.

These oils are at present free of duty whether produced or manufactured in some part of the British dominions or not. Any persons who desire to make representations stating reasons why this duty should or should not be imposed are hereby invited to send the same to this office not later than one month from the date of the publication of this notification in the New Zealand Gazette.

The primage duty of 1 per cent. ad valorem will, of course, in any case be payable.

Notice to Mariners No. 3 of 1925.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—TOLAGA BAY.

Wellington, 24th January, 1925.

Rock reported.

THE master of the s.s. “Putiki” reports a sunken rock to exist to the north-eastward of the northern extreme of Sporings Island (Pourewa) at the southern side of the entrance to Tolaga Bay (Uawa).

The following bearings are given: Gable End Foreland S. 3° E. magnetic; and Big Store Shed just open on the face of cliff of mainland near Cook’s Cove, S. 74° W.

Mariners are cautioned to give the southern side of the entrance to Tolaga Bay a wide berth until the locality has been examined.

Notice to Mariners No. 4 of 1925.

NEW ZEALAND.—EAST COAST.—POVERTY BAY.—GISBORNE HARBOUR.

Wellington, N.Z., 23rd January, 1925.

Dredger operating.

THE Gisborne Harbour Board notify that the dredger “Korua” is now operating in the entrance channel of Turanganui River, and will be attended by barges and a tug-boat.

Mariners are cautioned to exercise care to avoid the barges and tug-boat when navigating the entrance channel, and to sound the whistle and proceed slowly when approaching the dredger as it is necessary for the dredger’s moorings to be dropped when vessels are passing. In the daytime vessels should not attempt to pass the dredger until the red flag is hauled down, and at night time until the two red lights are lowered. The side on which the vessels are to pass will be signalled from the dredger.
