STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Hokitika, 5th October, 1925.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned lots of milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Hokitika, at 4 o’clock p.m., on Friday, the 30th October, 1925.
SCHEDULE.
WESTLAND FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.
Lot 1.
All the milling-timber on that piece of land, containing 56 acres, situated in Block VI, Turiwhate Survey District, portions of Provisional State Forest Reserves Nos. 1616 and 1676, situated about twelve miles from Jackson’s Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity in cubic feet is 54,289, or in superficial feet 376,000, made up as follows:—

Lot 2.
All the milling-timber on that piece of land, containing 633 acres, situated in Blocks XIV and XV, Mawheranui Survey District, and Blocks II and III, Brunner Survey District, portions of Provisional State Forest Reserves Nos. 1701 and 1715, situated about three miles from Kotuku Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity in cubic feet is 1,502,251, or in superficial feet 9,343,530, made up as follows:—

Lot 3.
All the milling-timber on that piece of land, containing 226 acres, situated in Block XIV, Mawheranui, and Block II, Brunner Survey Districts, portions of Provisional State Forest Reserves Nos. 1701 and 1715, situated about three miles and a half from Patara Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity in cubic feet is 508,928 of rimu (3,223,600 superficial feet).
Upset price, £2,500.
Ground rent, £11 6s. per annum.
Time for removal, three years.
Lot 4.
All the milling-timber on that piece of land, containing 70 acres, situated in Block VI, Kopara Survey District, portion of Provisional State Forest Reserve No. 1660, situated about twelve miles from Ruru Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity in cubic feet is 107,304, being 50,279 kahikatea, 47,982 rimu, and 9,043 matai, or in superficial feet 691,518, made up as follows:—

Terms of Payment.
Lot 1.
A marked cheque for one-half the purchase-money, together with ground rent and £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid three months after the date of sale.
Lot 2.
A marked cheque for one-tenth of the purchase-money, together with half-year’s ground rent and £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid by sixteen equal quarterly instalments, the first of which shall be paid on the 1st day of March, 1926.
Lot 3.
A marked cheque for one-tenth of the purchase-money, together with half-year’s ground rent and £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance by nine equal quarterly instalments, the first of which shall be paid on the 1st day of March, 1926.
Lot 4.
A marked cheque for one-half of the purchase-money, together with ground rent and £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid three months after the date of sale.
Terms and Conditions.

All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. over current bank rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.

The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921–22, the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions.

The attention of all tenderers is drawn to the fact that the local controlling body may require the successful tenderer to pay any claims or charges which may be made by that body for the maintenance of the road over which the timber may be transported, and before a sawmill license is issued a letter indicating that satisfactory arrangements have been made in this connection must be produced to the undersigned.

Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relative to the sale.

Each tenderer must state the total price that he is prepared to pay for each species. The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted, and the timber described is submitted for sale subject to the final acceptance of the tender by the Commissioner of State Forests.

The right is reserved to the Commissioner of State Forests to withdraw from sale any or all of the said timber either before or after the closing date for receipt of tenders.

If no tender is accepted for the timber herein mentioned, it will remain open for application at the upset price until further notice.

Tenders should be on the special form obtainable from any office of the State Forest Service, and should be enclosed in envelopes addressed “Conservator of Forests, Hokitika.” and endorsed “Tender for Timber.”
The conditions which will be inserted in the license to be issued to the purchaser, and further particulars, may be obtained on application to the undersigned or to the Director of Forestry, Wellington.
