General Graded List of Primary-school Teachers.

The following general graded list of teachers is issued, in accordance with the regulations for the grading of primary school teachers, and is, with any amendments thereto, to remain in force until the publication of the new general list in 1926. The list shows the order of merit in which teachers have been placed by the grading officers.

Included are the names of all certified teachers who were employed in public schools or Native schools on the 31st December, 1924, and of such other certified teachers who made special application to be graded in accordance with Regulation 3.

The abbreviations used in the column showing the class of position held by the teacher are as follows: H (head teacher); O (organizing teacher); S (sole teacher); A (assistant teacher or ex-normal student whose course ended December, 1924); D (assistant in the secondary department of a district high school).

The education districts in which teachers have been graded are shown under the heading “District.” Where “Department” occurs under this heading it signifies that the teacher has been graded provisionally by the Director of Education.

In accordance with clause 19 of the regulations each teacher is being supplied with the separate marks on which his grading has been determined, such information to be treated as confidential.

Attention is drawn to the regulations, under which any teacher who considers that he has a good ground of objection to the position assigned to him on the graded list may lodge an appeal by letter to reach the Director of Education not later than forty clear days after the publication of the list in the New Zealand Gazette—i.e., appeals must reach the Department not later than the 15th June, 1925. An appeal must be made on the prescribed form, which may be obtained on application to the Director of Education, Wellington, and must contain a complete and definite statement of the grounds on which the appeal is based.

The Teacher’s Register published in Part I serves as an index to the graded list.

As indicated in Part I, teachers who are not employed in public primary schools and who have applied to be graded have been awarded grading marks provisionally. These marks are subject to revision should the teacher obtain an appointment in a public primary school.
