Teachers' Register.
THE following register of teachers is issued under the authority of the Minister of Education in accordance with the provisions of the Education Amendment Act, 1924.
The register contains the names of the following persons :-
(a.) Every person who on the 1st day of April, 1925, was employed permanently as a "teacher" within the meaning of the Act.
(b.) Every person who though not permanently employed as a teacher on the 1st day of April, 1925, was the holder of a teacher’s certificate or a license to teach and is known to have been actively engaged in the work of education at some time within the last two years.
Where a teacher’s certificate is held the class is shown in each case. The abbreviation "Lic." under the heading of "Certificate" signifies that the teacher holds a license to teach only.
Primary, secondary, or technical grading is shown under the heading “Grading.” “P. 100” e.g. denotes a primary grading 100, “Sec. C” a secondary grading of Grade C, and “Tech. D II, C V” a technical grading of Division II, Class V. Under this heading also will be shown the nature of the employment of the following other persons engaged in educational work. The abbreviations used are shown in parentheses : Inspectors of Schools (Insp.), Lecturers in Training Colleges (Tr. C.), Professors and Lecturers in Universities (Univ.), Departmental Officers (Dept.).
If a teacher is also registered under a division other than that in which he is employed, a footnote will indicate the fact.
The register also serves the purpose of an alphabetical index to the general graded list of primary-school teachers published in Part II below. The district in which a public-school teacher is engaged may be ascertained by referring to the graded list.
Persons who are unemployed or who are engaged in teaching in private schools will have their names removed from the register of 1926 unless by 31st March next they have applied to be retained on the register. Such application holds good for two years.
J. CAUGBLEY, Director of Education.
