Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1908, and its amendments, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic. Such alterations to come into force on and after the 17th day of December, 1924.
PART I.—PASSENGERS.
GENERAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.
Cancel,—
Single tickets are available as follows:—
For distances up to and including 20 miles, for day of issue only.
Except in the case of suburban lines—
Single tickets for distances over 20 miles are available for four days including date of issue.
Return tickets 1 to 10 miles, up to and including the day after issue. From Saturday till following Monday.
Return tickets for distances over 10 miles are available for return for one month, including date of issue.
The currency of all tickets will terminate at 12 o’clock midnight.
The journey must be commenced on the day of issue and completed on or before the date on which the ticket expires.

- Except as may be specially provided, tickets at ordinary fares will be available as follows:—
(a.) Single tickets for journeys not exceeding 20 miles for one day only, being the date shown on the ticket.
(b.) Single tickets for journeys exceeding 20 miles, for one calendar month.
(c.) Return tickets for journeys not exceeding 20 miles, for two days.
(d.) Return tickets for journeys exceeding 20 miles, for three calendar months.
(e.) In each case the period of availability shall begin with and include the date shown on the ticket. In the case of tickets available for two days, Sunday shall, unless the ticket shall be dated as for a Sunday, not be taken into account.
(f.) The journey may be commenced at any time within the period of the availability of the ticket, and must be completed before the expiry of such period.
HOLIDAY EXCURSION TICKETS.
Cancel Regulation 12, Holiday Excursion Tickets.

Holiday Excursion Tickets.

After public notification in each case, return holiday excursion tickets at fares as per schedule following, may be issued on the railways under the control of the Department on such holidays and special occasions, and available for return for such period as may be determined by the Department.

The journey must be commenced on the date shown on the ticket, and must be completed on or before the date on which the ticket expires, and may be broken at any station where the train is timed to stop, being not less than 50 miles from the original starting-station, provided the specified time for which the ticket is available is not exceeded.

Holiday excursion tickets may be issued to jockeys and trainers travelling in charge of racehorses en route to race meetings and to exhibitors and attendants in charge of exhibits en route to shows one week earlier than the dates upon which such tickets are advertised as issuable to the general public in connection with such race meeting or show.

Tickets at the holiday excursion rates will be issued only at the option of the Department. Fares will be charged at the following rates:—
