Regulations as to Compulsory Registration of Electors, and as to voting at Elections by Absent Voters and Others.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE GOVERNMENT IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Legislature Act, 1908, and its amendments, His Excellency the Administrator of the Government of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of that Dominion, doth hereby make the regulations hereinafter set forth.
REGULATIONS.
REGISTRATION OF ELECTORS.

APPLICATIONS for registration under section 2 of the Legislature Amendment Act, 1924, shall be in the form numbered (1), or the form numbered (2) in the Schedule hereto, as the case may require.

(1.) Every Registrar of Electors who enters the name of any person on the roll of his district shall forthwith transmit notice thereof, by telegraph if necessary, to the Registrar of the District (if any) for which the applicant was previously registered, and that Registrar shall forthwith remove the name of that person from the roll of such last-mentioned district, and, having endorsed the notice with a note of such removal, shall file it in his office. If the Registrar to whom the notice is transmitted finds that the name of the elector is not upon the roll of his district, he shall, by telegraph if necessary, inform the Registrar who transmitted the notice of that fact.
(2.) Every notice of transfer pursuant to this regulation shall be in the form numbered (3) in the Schedule hereto.
- (1.) Notice of the death of an adult person, to be given pursuant to section 7 of the Legislature Amendment Act, 1924, shall be in the form numbered (4) in the Schedule hereto.
(2.) On receipt of any such notice the Registrar of Electors shall remove from the roll the name of the person to whom the notice relates, and shall, opposite his name, write the word βDeadβ and the date of death.
- (1.) Notice of the intended marriage of an adult woman, to be given pursuant to section 8 of the Legislature Amendment Act, 1924, shall be in the form numbered (5) in the Schedule hereto.
(2.) On receipt of any such notice the Registrar of Electors shall forthwith by registered letter request the elector to state whether the marriage has been solemnized and (if so) whether she is still residing within the electoral district; and on receipt of a statement by the elector that the marriage has been solemnized the Registrar shall remove the former name of the elector from the roll, and, if she is still possessed of the necessary residential qualification, shall insert her married name in its alphabetical order, together with the correct address and description.
ABSENT VOTERS.

For the purposes of section 13 of the Legislature Amendment Act, 1924, any registered elector may at any time within the hours of polling, vote as an absent voter at any polling-place outside the district for which he is registered.

Every such elector shall, on applying to vote, state to the Deputy Returning Officer his full name, his place of residence, and occupation as appearing on the electoral roll of the district for which he is registered.

The Deputy Returning Officer may, and if so required by a scrutineer shall, before allowing an elector to vote as an absent voter, put to him the questions specified in section 128 of the Legislature Act, 1908.
