clay and sandstone formation. Well watered by a swamp and swampy stream. Situated between Swanson and Henderson Valley. The access is from Henderson Railway-station, which is about three miles distant by a formed road, two miles and a half of which is metalled.

Opening National-endowment Lands in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
JELLICOE, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national-endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the ninth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Buller County.—Steeple Survey District.
Lot 3 of Section 10, Block I: Area, 3 acres 3 roods 24 perches. Capital value, £30. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, 12s. Situated at Cape Foulwind, six miles by road or railway from Westport. Flat to undulating land covered with scrub and rushes, interspersed with grass. Soil of fair quality on sandstone formation. Badly watered. Altitude, 200 ft. above sea-level. There are 23 chains of indifferent fencing on this property.
Inangahua County.—Inangahua Survey District.
Section 25, Block V: Area, 486 acres. Capital value, £595. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £11 18s.
The improvements on this section which are included in the capital value of the land comprise a four-roomed cottage, whare, four-bail cow-shed and feed-room, 40 acres felled and grassed, 2½ acres stumped, and 50 chains of fencing.
The section is situated with a frontage on to the Reefton-Westport Road, about half a mile from Inangahua Junction Post-office and Railway-station, and one mile and a half from a school. The access is from Reefton, twenty miles distant, by a very good metalled road and railway. The section has a good homestead-site on a road frontage, in about 10 acres of flat land, the remainder of the section being hillside and broken land. The whole of the section is bushclad, with the exception of 40 acres which have been felled and grassed. The soil is good on the flat, and from good to poor on hillside, resting on limestone and sandstone formation. The forest is medium to heavy, comprising mixed birch, miro, rimu, with a little matai and white-pine in gullies, with a fair undergrowth of horopito, broadleaf, and birch; well watered. Altitude, 250 ft. to 1,700 ft. above sea-level.
Waimea County.—Motueka Survey District.
Sections 16, 124, and 125, Block VI: Area, 350 acres 3 roods 29 perches. Capital value, £105. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £2 2s.
Situated in the Motueka Valley, seven miles by good road from Motueka. Broken country of manuka and fern spurs, with birch bush in gullies. Soil of poor quality, on granite formation; poorly watered by small gullies. Altitude, 200 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Lands in the North Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the fifteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
SCHEDULE.
NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Rodney County.—Oruawharo Parish.
SECTION 117: Area, 154 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £465. Occupation with right of purchase: half-yearly rent, £11 12s. 6d. Renewable lease: half-yearly rent, £9 6s.
Situated between Wellsford and Te Hana, access being from Wellsford Railway-station, three miles away, two miles by formed road, balance unformed. The elevation ranges from 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Section comprises undulating to hilly land in danthonia, fern, and short scrub. All more or less ploughable. Soil is of clay on sandstone. Well watered by streams and springs.
Hokianga County.—Waoku Survey District.
Section 5, Block XV: Area, 200 acres. Capital value, £200. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4.
Situated on Taheke-Opononi Road, fourteen miles from Taheke Post-office and Landing by formed and partly metalled road. The altitude ranges from 450 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Soil is clay on sandstone, watered by several streams. 150 acres of mixed green bush, balance burnt bush, carrying fern and rough feed. The whole section is undulating easy sloping to hilly.
Section 31, Block XVI: Area, 221 acres 3 roods. Capital value, £225. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5 12s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4 10s.
Elevation ranges from 800 ft. to 1,050 ft. above sea-level. Easy sloping to steep and broken land, covered with heavy mixed bush—rimu, taraire, &c. Soil is of fair clay on sandstone formation. Well watered by several streams. Situated on old Hokianga-Tutamoe Road, and access is from Taheke, eighteen miles distant, by formed road.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Whangarei County.—Waipu Parish.
Section 252A: Area, 74 acres. Capital value, £110. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £2 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £2 4s.
The elevation ranges from about 300 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to level land, half bush and half tea-tree. The soil is mixed loam and clay with patches of pipe-clay. The section is watered by a small stream. Situated five miles from Waipu by formed cart-road.

Primary Education Endowment in Block X, Ngaiere Survey District, Taranaki Land District, set apart as a Site for a Public School.
JELLICOE, Governor-General.
WHEREAS by section five of the Education Reserves Amendment Act, 1911, it is enacted that the Governor-General may, on the recommendation of the Land Board of the district in which are situated any reserves or endowment vested in the Crown by or in pursuance of section two of the Education Reserves Amendment Act, 1910, set apart as sites for public schools, secondary schools, or technical schools any part of such reserves or endowments:
And whereas the Land Board of the Taranaki Land District has duly passed a resolution recommending that the primary-education endowment described in the Schedule hereto should be set apart as a site for a public school, and it is expedient to give effect to such recommendation:
Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the Acts aforesaid, do hereby set apart the primary-education endowment described in the Schedule hereto as a site for a public school.
