Notice to Mariners No. 55 of 1924.

FOXTON HARBOUR.—DREDGER OPERATING.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 25th August, 1924.

THE Foxton Harbour Board notify that the Dredger
“Hennessy” is now engaged in dredging operations
in Manawatu River at a position almost opposite the jetty
at Manawatu Heads, locally known as Fisherman’s Flat.
The dredger, which will have moorings laid out to the
north, north-east, south-east, south-west, and north-west,
will probably remain in this locality for about six weeks,
and between sunset and sunrise will exhibit white lights fore
and aft, in all about four lights.
It is intended to dredge the channel to the eastward of the
alignment of the jetty.
Care must be exercised by vessels when in the vicinity
of the dredger.

Taieri River Trust.

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the twenty-seventh day
of April, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one,
and published in Gazette No. 43, of the fifth day of the follow-
ing month, Lachlan Bain Campbell, Esquire, District Engineer,
Public Works Department, Dunedin, was appointed a Com-
missioner of the Taieri River Trust, in terms of section three
of the Taieri River Improvement Act, 1920 :
And whereas the said Lachlan Bain Campbell has been
appointed District Engineer of the Public Works Department
at Auckland, and it is considered expedient to appoint another
Commissioner in lieu of the said Lachlan Bain Campbell :
Now, therefore, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Public
Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred
upon me by section three of the Taieri River Improvement
Act, 1920, and of every other power and authority in anywise
enabling me in this behalf, do hereby cancel the appointment
of the said Lachlan Bain Campbell to be a Commissioner of
the Taieri River Trust, and do hereby appoint

John Reuben Marks, Esquire,

District Engineer, Public Works Department, Dunedin, to
be a Commissioner of the Taieri River Trust.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XI, Maungatautari
Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute
a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road in
Block XI, Maungatautari Survey District—and for the purposes
of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto
is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given
that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited
in the Post-office at Pukeatua, and is there open for inspection ;
and that all persons affected by the execution of the said
public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they
have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the
said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the
same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days
from the first publication of this notice to the Minister of
Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken :
4 acres 1 rood 24·4 perches.
Being portion of part Section 10A, Tautari Settlement.
Situated in Block XI, Maungatautari Survey District
(Auckland R.D.). (S.O. 23008.)

In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 59865,
deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works, at
Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon
coloured blue.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the
Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops in the Borough of Palmerston
North.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops in the Borough
of Palmerston North, has been forwarded to me, desiring that
all such shops in the borough be closed in the evening of
working-days as follows—On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays,
and Fridays at 5.30 p.m. ; and on Saturdays at 6 p.m. :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour,
am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition repre-
sent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within
the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and
Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the
1st day of September, 1924, all the grocers’ shops within the
Borough of Palmerston North shall be closed accordingly.
