STEWART ISLAND.—ANGLEM POINT LIGHT.

Arc of Visibility amended.
MARINERS are hereby notified that the arc of visibility of Anglem Point Light has been amended as follows:—
The light is visible from 137° through south to 339°, obscured elsewhere.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 50 of 1924.
BLUFF HARBOUR.—REPORTED OBSTRUCTION IN CHANNEL.

INFORMATION has been received that recently a vessel drawing 21 ft. is reported to have sustained damage whilst entering Bluff Harbour at a position near No. 1 beacon with the main leading beacons on Middle Bank in transit, the tide being at or near low water.
The bottom in this locality is under examination, and until this has been completed masters of vessels of a similar draft should avoid using this channel at or near low water.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, the Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Hydrographic Office, Washington, are published for general information.

CENTRAL AMERICA.—PANAMA, PACIFIC COAST.
Panama Canal Entrance—Information re Light-buoy and Light-beacons.
(a.) Buoy replaced by light-buoy:
Position.—On eastern side of channel, at a distance of about 6 cables south-westward of Flamenco Island light. Lat. 8° 54′ N., long. 79° 32′ W. (approx.).
Details.—No. 4 red spar-buoy has been replaced by a light-buoy, painted red and marked No. 4, exhibiting a fixed red light.
(b.) Light-beacon established:
Position.—On western side of channel off Balboa, at a distance of 1·75 cables 322° from No. 19 light-beacon.
Description.—No. 19½ light-beacon, painted white, exhibiting a flashing white light.
(c.) Light-beacon established:
Position.—On eastern side of channel off Balboa, at a distance of 0·8 of a cable 072° from No. 5 light-beacon.
Description.—No. 6 light-beacon, painted white, exhibiting a flashing red light.
UNITED STATES, PACIFIC COAST.—CALIFORNIA.—SAN PEDRO BAY APPROACH.
Point Fermin Light.—Alteration in Character.
Position.—Lat. 33° 42′ N., long. 118° 18′ W. (approx.).
Abridged description.—Gp. fl. (2) ev. 10 sec. 154 ft., 18 m.
Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from group occulting white to group flashing white, showing two flashes every ten seconds, thus: Flash 1 sec., eclipse, 2 sec.; flash 1 sec., eclipse 6 sec.
Remarks.—The power of the light is now 3,300 candles; in other respects it is unaltered.
¶ (2167) CALIFORNIA.—SEA-COAST.
San Francisco Light-vessel.—Radio Fog-signal to be changed.
The radio fog-signal on San Francisco Light-vessel will be changed to transmit a series of double dashes for 60 seconds, silent 60 seconds. No other change.
Approx. position: 37° 45′ 03″ N., 122° 41′ 30″ W.

CHINA SEA.—BANKA STRAIT.
Dawun Point.—Shoal extending south-westward.
Position.—Dawun Point, lat. 2° 54′ S., long. 106° 14′ E. (approx.).
Details.—The note “Shoal extending to south-westward (1924)” is to be inserted on chart No. 2808, against the outer edge of the 3 fathom (5m5) line, situated about 3 miles south-westward of Dawun Point. The note “Bank extending” is to be similarly inserted on charts Nos. 2597 and 2149.
EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO.—JAVA SEA.
Arnemuiden Bank Light.—Alteration in Character.
Former Notice.—No. 393 of 1924 [PRELIMINARY]; hereby cancelled.
Position.—Lat. 5° 13′ S., long. 106° 45′ E. (approx.).
Abridged description.—Fl. ev. 20 sec., 33 ft. (U).
Alteration.—The flashing red light has been replaced by a flashing white light every twenty seconds, thus: Flash 5 sec., eclipse 15 sec.
Remarks.—The light is unwatched; in other respects it is unaltered.
SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—SAMOA ISLANDS, UPOLU.
Apia Harbour.—Amendments to Chart.
(1.) Visibility of rear leading light:
Position.—On Vaea Vorberg. Lat. 13° 50′ S., long. 171° 46′ W. (approx.).
Abridged description.—Fl. W.R. ev. 3 sec. 213 ft. 21 m. (U).
Details.—Information has been received that the visibility of the flashing light is 21 miles.
NOTE.—The rear leading light is now to be inserted on the small scale chart No. 780.
(2.) Light established on beacon:
Position.—On Cape Horn beacon. Lat. 13° 49′ S., long. 171° 46′ W. (approx.).
Abridged description.—F. R. (U). (Unreliable.)
Description.—A fixed red light.
NOTE.—The light should not be depended upon.
(3.) Conspicuous building:
Position.—On West Reef, at a distance of approximately 13·8 cables 332° from Apia front leading light. Lat. 13° 48′ S., long, 171° 47′ W. (approx.).
Description.—A small concrete house on dolphins.
NOTE.—This house, which constitutes a conspicuous mark for vessels approaching the harbour, is to be marked “(Conspic.) P.A.” on chart No. 2211.
SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—FIJI ISLANDS, VITI LEVU.
Nasilai Reef Light.—Alteration in Character.
Position.—Lat. 18° 08′ S., long. 178° 42′ E. (approx.).
Abridged description.—Fl. ev. 3 sec. 45 ft., 12 m. (U).
Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from group flashing white to flashing white every three seconds, thus: Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 sec.
NOTE.—The light is unwatched.
AUSTRALIA, EAST COAST.—QUEENSLAND, PORT CURTIS ENTRANCE.
Gatcombe Head Light.—Intended Alteration in Characteristics.
Date of Alteration.—On or about 9th June, 1924, without further notice.
Position.—On the eastern side of Gatcombe Head. Lat. 23° 53′ S., long. 151° 23′ E. (approx.).
Abridged description.—Gp. fl. (3) ev. 9 sec., 122 ft., 15 m. (U).
Details.—The fixed white light will be replaced by a light having the undermentioned characteristics:—
Character.—Group flashing white, showing three flashes every nine seconds, thus: Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 1·0 sec.; flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 1·0 sec.; flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 6·1 sec.
Visibility.—15 miles. Power.—1,500 candles.
NOTE.—The light will be unwatched.
Remarks.—The remaining characteristics will be unaltered.
