Prohibiting the Use of Purse-seine Nets for taking Fish within the Firth of Thames, and also upon Trawling-vessels.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 22nd day of December, 1923.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR FRANCIS BELL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS it is provided by section five of the Fisheries Act, one thousand nine hundred and eight (hereinafter called “the said Act”) that the Governor-General may, from time to time, by Order in Council gazetted, make regulations imposing conditions and restrictions on the taking of fish; and prohibiting any specified mode of taking fish, or the use of any specified engines, tackle, or apparatus for taking the same:

And whereas it is considered expedient to prohibit the use of purse-seine nets for taking fish within the waters hereinafter described, and also to prohibit the use of such nets on trawling-vessels:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following regulations.

REGULATIONS.

  1. No person shall use the appliance known as purse-seine net for taking fish within that area of the Firth of Thames inside a straight line drawn from Deadman Point to the light known as “Ponui Passage Light,” and a straight line from the said light to Raukura Point. As the said area is more particularly shown and delineated in red on plan marked M.D. 5779, and deposited in the office of the Marine Department at Wellington.

  2. It shall be unlawful to use or convey a purse-seine net on any vessel while such vessel is engaged in trawling.

  3. Any person committing a breach of either of the above regulations is liable to a fine of fifty pounds.

Regulations relating to Cider.—(H. 107.)

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 14th day of January, 1924.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR FRANCIS BELL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on him by the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”); and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the regulations made under the said Act on the twenty-ninth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and gazetted on the eighth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the following regulations.

REGULATIONS.

CIDER.

General Standard for Cider.

  1. CIDER (or cyder) shall be the product of the alcoholic fermentation of the expressed juice of sound apples.

Sweetened Cider.

  1. Sweetened cider shall be the product of the alcoholic fermentation of the expressed juice of sound apples to which sugar has been added either before or after fermentation.

Unfermented Cider.

  1. Unfermented cider shall be the expressed juice of sound apples.

Sweetened Unfermented Cider.

  1. Sweetened unfermented cider shall be the expressed juice of sound apples with the addition of sugar.

Preservative.

  1. The preservative substance, sulphur dioxide or a preparation of sulphur dioxide or salicylic acid (one but not both) may be added to cider in proportion not exceeding two grains to the gallon.

Prohibition.

  1. The word “cider” (or “cyder”) alone or in conjunction with any word or any expression which includes or resembles the word “cider” shall not be written on or attached to any package unless the contents thereof comply with the standard for cider, or for sweetened cider, or for unfermented cider, or for sweetened unfermented cider, or for cider vinegar, as the case may be.

Recreation Reserve in Otago Land District brought under Part II of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 14th day of January, 1924.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR FRANCIS BELL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

BY virtue of the powers and authorities vested in me by the twenty-sixth section of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, do hereby order and declare that the reserve for recreation in the Otago Land District described in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same is hereby brought under the operation of and declared to be subject to the provisions of Part II of the said Act; and such reserve shall hereafter be known as the Macraes Domain, and be managed, administered, and dealt with as a public domain.

The North-eastern Side of Portion of Patanga Crescent, in the City of Wellington, exempted from the Provisions of Section 117 of the Public Works Act, 1908.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 14th day of January, 1924.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR FRANCIS BELL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the Public Works Act, 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby approve of the following resolution passed by the Wellington City Council on the twenty-ninth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, viz.:

“The Wellington City Council, being the local authority having control of the streets in the City of Wellington, hereby declares that the provisions of section one hundred and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, shall not apply to the north-eastern side of all that portion of Patanga Crescent beginning at its junction with Tinakori Road and extending for a distance of 141 links, being frontage of part Town Section 621, City of Wellington, deeds plan 481 ”;

such portion of street being described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

THE north-eastern side of all that portion of street situated in the Wellington Land District, City of Wellington, known as Patanga Crescent, fronting Town Section 621, City of Wellington, deeds plan 481. As the said portion of street is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 58614, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured red.
