The total births registered for the urban areas amounted to 987, as against 1,073 in March—a decrease of 86. The deaths in April were 419, a decrease of 19 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 237, females 182. Fifty-five of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 13·13 per cent. of the whole number. Thirty-nine of these were under one year of age.

The equivalent annual rates per 1,000 of mean population for April and four months ended April, 1924, were as follows. The infantile mortality rate per 100 births for the same period is also given.
