The resolution to do such thing was passed at a special meeting held at the County Council Chambers, Whakatane, on 10th October, 1922. Such resolution was advertised as directed by the Counties Act. The special order was confirmed at an ordinary meeting held at the County Council Chambers on the 14th day of November, 1922.

Date of Election by Fire-insurance Companies to fill Extraordinary Vacancy on Gisborne Fire Board.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and the rules made thereunder, I, William Downie Stewart, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Monday, the 5th February, 1923, to be the date for holding the election of one member of the Gisborne Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. E. V. Law.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block III, Pohui Survey District, for the Purposes of a Horse-paddock.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of a horse-paddock in Block III, Pohui Survey District. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Te Haroto, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 1 acre 0 roods 13 perches.
Being Section 4, part Tarawera Block, situated in Block III, Pohui Survey District (Hawke’s Bay R.D.). (S.O. 1503, red.)
In the Hawke’s Bay Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 55660, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged red.

Agreement for Grant of Right-of-way in favour of Charles Bruce, John Harrison Bruce, and James Alison over Portion of Land taken for the East Coast Main Trunk Railway assented to.
WHEREAS by a Proclamation dated the 6th day of March, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th day of the same month, all those pieces of land containing 5 acres 1 rood 11·2 perches, being part Lots 42, 43 (D.P. 2283), and 7 (D.P. 1856), part Te Pahou Block, Blocks XII and XVI, Puketapu Survey District, were taken for the purposes of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway (Napier Northwards, Eskdale Section):
And whereas Charles Bruce, of Petane, farmer, John Harrison Bruce, of Eskdale, farmer, and James Alison, of Napier, labourer, as tenants in common in equal shares, were entitled to compensation in respect of their freehold interest in the said land:
And whereas the Minister of Public Works agreed to grant to the said Charles Bruce, John Harrison Bruce, and James Alison a right-of-way over the portion of the said land described in the Schedule hereto as part satisfaction of the compensation so payable as aforesaid, and to make a monetary payment in satisfaction of the residue of the said compensation:
And whereas the said Charles Bruce, John Harrison Bruce, and James Alison agreed to accept such grant and monetary payment in satisfaction of the said compensation: And whereas such monetary payment was duly made to the said Charles Bruce, John Harrison Bruce, and James Alison:
Now, therefore, I, William Fraser, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Member of the Executive Council, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Public Works, do hereby give notice, in pursuance of section 84 of the Public Works Act, 1908, that I assent to the above agreement.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land contained in the right-of-way: 25·34 perches.
Being portion of railway land situated in Blocks XII and XVI, Puketapu Survey District (Hawke’s Bay R.D.). (S.O. 736, green).
In the Hawke’s Bay Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 56190, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured red.
