In computing the charge fractions of a halfpenny shall be
regarded in the total.
9. Any subscriber may have inserted in his toll account
the name of the person making each outward toll communication,
or the number of the called subscriber, provided that he
makes written application and agrees to pay an extra charge
of 3d. on each communication.
10. The Department will not undertake to refuse toll communications from any subscriber's telephone, or to restrict in
any way the hours, while the exchange is open, during which
applications for communications will be received.
11. A statement of account certified by a responsible officer of the Department as being correct shall be accepted as prima facie evidence of the toll calls made from any subscriber's telephone.
12. If payment of the charge for a toll communication is
not made within seven days after demand the Minister of
Telegraphs may refuse an exchange subscriber any further toll
communication until the outstanding charge has been paid,
and if the account is not paid within one month after demand,
the connection with the exchange may be discontinued,
without prejudice to any proceedings for the recovery of any
moneys then due, or otherwise.
13. Any person making a request for a toll communication
from a public bureau shall be required to deposit an amount
equal to the charge for a three-minute connection over the
line on which it is desired to communicate.
14. Owners of private telephone lines led into a bureau
may use the departmental lines when available for speaking
purposes through such bureau. The charges for this service
shall be the same as those payable for toll communications,
the distance being calculated from the telephone bureau.
15. Any communication from a telephone bureau or post-
office over a private telephone line connected with such
office shall be charged for as a toll communication.
16. All toll communications on official business from officers
of other Government Departments, or from postal officers on
behalf of other Departments, shall be paid for.
17. Provided the attention of the offices concerned can
be gained, toll communications may be arranged after the
ordinary hours of attendance on weekdays or Sundays on
payment of a reopening fee of ls. if the Postmaster is resident
on the premises, or 2s. 6d. if not resident on the premises.
In addition, if the attendance of any officer is required beyond
a period of half an hour, such attendance shall be paid for
at the rate of overtime fixed by the Department's regulations.
18. The applicant for a toll communication over a telegraph
circuit shall in all cases make his own arrangements for the
attendance of the person with whom he desires to communicate,
and any permission required by telegraph for the joining-
through of any circuit which may be required to effect the
connection shall be obtained by a reply-paid telegram. The
service shall be available on Sundays and at other times
approved by the Minister, usually between midnight and
8 a.m., when the telegraph circuits are not in use for ordinary
purposes. The charges for such communications shall be
those prescribed for the use of toll lines, together with any
additional charges for reopening offices or overtime incurred,
as prescribed in regulation 17 hereof for any special attendance
required at the office of origin or destination, or at any intermediate office.

LETTERS AND LETTER-CARDS.
Inland: 1½d. for the first 2 oz. or fraction thereof, and 1d.
for each additional 2 oz. or fraction thereof.
All other places to which Postal Union rates do not apply:
1¼d. for the first ounce or fraction thereof, and 1d. for each
additional ounce or fraction thereof.

POST-CARDS.
Inland: Single, 1d.; reply, 2d.

PACKETS.
(Comprising Commercial Papers, Books and Printed Papers,
Pattern and Sample Packets, and Unregistered Magazines.)
Inland: 1d. not exceeding 2 oz., 1¼d. exceeding 2 oz. and
not exceeding 4 oz., 1½d. for each additional 4 oz. or fraction thereof up to 1 lb., and 2d. for each additional pound
or fraction thereof up to 5 lb.

NEWSPAPERS.
Inland: ½d. each.

SPECIAL-REQUEST CORRESPONDENCE.
Undelivered printed matter prepaid 1d. that has been posted
in New Zealand and bears a special request for its return to
the sender, or is of intrinsic value, will be returned and
charged additional postage of 1d.
Undelivered printed matter prepaid ½d. that has been
posted outside New Zealand and, by request, sent to an
address in New Zealand other than that to which it was
originally addressed will be charged additional postage of 1d.

PRIVATE MAIL-BAGS.
(a.) For a private bag carried by a mail contractor, for a
year ending 31st December, £2; for a second bag, if the
quantity of correspondence requires it, £1.
(b.) For a private bag carried by a mail contractor, for a
half-year ending 30th June or 31st December, £1; for a second bag, if the quantity of correspondence requires it, 10s.
(c.) For a private bag, if delivery is taken at the post-
office where it is made up, for a year ending 31st December, £1.
(d.) For a private bag, if delivery is taken at the post-
office where it is made up, for a half-year ending 30th June
or 31st December, 10s.
(e.) For a private bag carried otherwise than by mail
contractor,
When the cost of carriage does not exceed the foregoing
fees set out in (a), (b), (c), and (d), the foregoing fees
as so set out.
When the cost of carriage exceeds the foregoing fees
as set out in (a), (b), (c), and (d), £1 per annum, plus
the actual cost of carriage.

MONEY-ORDERS.
By Telegraph.
Payable in New Zealand: 1d. for each £1 or fraction thereof,
but with a minimum charge of 6d., plus a telegraph fee of
1s. if order is sent by ordinary telegram, or 2s. if it is sent
by urgent telegram.
For a private communication for the payee, added to the
official telegram of advice: 1d. per word if order is sent
by ordinary telegram, or 2d. per word if it is sent by urgent
telegram.

INLAND TELEGRAMS.
Week-days (other than the public holidays mentioned below):
Ordinary: 9d. for first twelve words (including address
and signature), and 1d. for each additional word.
Urgent: 1s. 6d. for first twelve words (including address
and signature), and 2d. for each additional word.
Sundays and the following public holidays—viz., New Year's
Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the King's
Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day:
Double the rates for weekdays.

SAVINGS-BANK TELEGRAMS.
Ordinary: 9d.
Urgent: 1s. 6d.

INLAND MULTIPLE TELEGRAMS.
The additional fee for each address after the first shall be
for ordinary telegrams, 4½d.; urgent telegrams, 9d.

WEATHER TELEGRAMS FOR FARMERS.
Telegrams from farmers addressed "Weather," Wellington,
seeking information as to the state of the weather shall be
charged 1s. for the message and reply.
