5TH N.Z. MOUNTED RIFLES (OTAGO).

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) H. J. Vial is confirmed.

6TH N.Z. MOUNTED RIFLES (MANAWATU).

His Excellency, Admiral of the Fleet, Viscount Jellicoe of Scapa, G.C.B., O.M., G.C.V.O., to be Honorary Colonel. Dated 28th June, 1923.

Lieutenant G. G. C. Hornig, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant. Dated 2nd July, 1923.

8TH N.Z. MOUNTED RIFLES (NELSON).

Lieutenant F. L. Murray, M.C., from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant. Dated 7th July, 1923.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 18, of 9th March, 1922, relating to the above named is hereby cancelled.

THE REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.

2nd Lieutenant H. H. Osmers, from the Reserve of Officers, to be 2nd Lieutenant (3rd Battery). Dated 27th June, 1923.

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN).

Lieutenant R. O. Buchanan, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant (2nd C. Battalion). Dated 1st February, 1922.

THE TARANAKI REGIMENT.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) C. O. Edmonds (1st C. Battalion) is confirmed.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 56, of 12th July, 1923, relating to the transfer of Lieutenant E. V. G. E. Kerr should read “Lieutenant,” and not as therein stated.

THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.

Lieutenant N. P. Neal to be Captain (3rd C. Battalion). Dated 6th July, 1923.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) C. F. De Joux (2nd C. Battalion) is confirmed.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (temp.) G. R. Sherrat (2nd C. Battalion) is confirmed.

2nd Lieutenant G. Burns, from the Otago Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant (4th C. Battalion), with seniority as from the 4th January, 1922.

2nd Lieutenant A. A. Perry (1st Battalion) is transferred to the Otago Regiment (1st Battalion). Dated 10th July, 1923.

THE NELSON, MARLBOROUGH, AND WEST COAST REGIMENT.

Lieutenant G. H. Blanshard is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 5. Dated 12th July, 1923.

THE OTAGO REGIMENT.

2nd Lieutenant A. A. Perry, from the Canterbury Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant (1st Battalion), with seniority as from the 19th March, 1921.

2nd Lieutenant G. Burns (3rd C. Battalion) is transferred to the Canterbury Regiment (4th C. Battalion). Dated 10th July, 1923.

Morris Frank Ledingham to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation), (1st Battalion). Dated 4th July, 1923.

THE SOUTHLAND REGIMENT.

RESERVE OF OFFICERS.

Captain W. G. A. Bishop retires under the provisions of General Order No. 184/21. He is granted the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, with permission to wear the prescribed uniform.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 70, of 28th July, 1921, relating to 2nd Lieutenant A. Craig, for the words “with rank of Lieutenant” read “with rank of Captain.”

Approval of Fees for Licensing of Vehicles fixed by By-laws.—Whangarei County Council.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 109 of the Counties Act, 1920, that so much of the by-laws made by the Ashburton County Council and sealed on the 6th day of July, 1923, as appoints the several sums to be paid to the Ashburton County funds for the licensing of vehicles plying for hire has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor-General.

First Meeting of the recently constituted Invercargill Fire Board.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Taranaki, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

COUNTY OF TARANAKI.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Waitara Riding of the County of Taranaki was taken on the 22nd day of June, 1923, on the proposal of the Taranaki County Council to borrow the sum of £5,250 apportioned as follows: £4,970 for constructing bridges in the Waitara Riding, and £280 for payment of the first year’s interest and sinking fund and cost of raising the loan.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 90, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 13. I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Importation of Bran and Pollard.

Customs Department,
Wellington, 25th July, 1923.

WITH reference to the Order in Council gazetted on 13th November, 1917, under which the importation of bran and pollard is prohibited save with the consent of the Minister of Customs given on the recommendation of the Board of Trade, it is notified, for general information, that the Minister of Customs will be prepared to favourably consider applications for permission to import bran and pollard provided that the goods are imported on or before 30th September next and that the applications are recommended by the Department of Industries and Commerce.

Applications should be forwarded direct to the Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, Wellington, and should state the port at which the goods are to be landed, the quantity of each commodity applied for, and the approximate date of importation.
