The total births registered for the urban areas amounted to 956, as against 1,001 in March—a decrease of 45. The deaths in April were 431, an increase of 17 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 237, females 194. Sixty-six of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 15·31 per cent. of the whole number. Fifty-two of these were under one year of age.
