Education reserves are included in the classes of land on
which, with the approval of the Advances Board, money may
be advanced by the State-guaranteed Advances Office.

The reserve is described for the general information of
intending tenderers, who are recommended, nevertheless, to
make a personal inspection, as the Department is not respon-
sible for the absolute accuracy of any description.

Form of lease may be perused and full particulars obtained
at this office.

Pastoral Runs in Hawke’s Bay Land District for License.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Napier, 7th May, 1923.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pastoral
runs are open for license for a term of thirty-five years ;
and applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock
p.m. on Tuesday, the 12th day of June, 1923, under the
provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and its amendments.


SCHEDULE.

HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT.—HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY.

Kuripapanga Survey District.

PASTORAL Run No. 20; 5,532 acres; upset annual rent,
£104 16s.

Altitude from 600 ft. to 3,500 ft. above sea-level. About
3,000 acres is fair country, undulating to hilly, mostly in
fern, with patches of scrub. The balance is rough and poor,
being high windswept tops and shingle slides facing Ngaru-
roro River. Practically no fencing on run. There is a
one-roomed whare and holding-paddock near the centre of
run. Situated about nine miles from Willowford and
forty-two miles from Napier.

Waitara Survey District.

Pastoral Run No. 24; 5,804 acres; upset annual rent,
£75.

Rough and undulating country, covered with fern and
scrubby manuka. A belt of about ten chains wide, which
extends along the top and sides of the range on the south-
east boundary, and the tops of most of the hills and spurs,
are covered with native grasses. The soil is of a light
pumiceous nature. Fronts Mohaka River, situated forty-
seven miles from Napier and nineteen miles from Te Pohue
by formed dray-road, with the exception of three miles of
bridle-track.

Waitara Survey District.

Pastoral Run No. 3; 5,388 acres; upset annual rent,
£33 6s.

Comprises open fern and manuka land, portions in native
and self-sown English grasses; light pumiceous soil. Fronts
Mohaka River. Elevation from 500 ft. to 3,000 ft. above
sea-level.

Kuripapanga and Ngaruroro Survey Districts.

Pastoral Run No. 23; 18,711 acres; upset annual rent,
£250.

Weighted with £500, valuation for wool-shed, which must
be paid for either in cash or in twenty years by forty half-
yearly instalments of £20 1s. 3d.

Other improvements consisting of old yards, two sheds,
twelve miles and a quarter of fencing yards, two whares,
dip and yards, plantation, and orchards are effected on the
runs.

Altitude from 1,000 ft. to 3,600 ft. above sea-level. There
is an area of fair country, about 5,000 acres approximately,
extending north and south through the block covered with
tussock, native grasses, and manuka. The balance consists
chiefly of high country of poor soil, covered principally with
manuka. The top of the ranges are bare, shingly, and
windswept. Access is by main road (Napier to Patea),
which passes through the northern portion of the block.
Distance from Napier to Kuripapanga Hotel about forty-
five miles.

Plans and full particulars may be obtained at this office
on application.

Possession will be given immediately on approval of
application.

Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.—Wellington Forest Conservation Region.

State Forest Service,
Palmerston North, 9th May, 1923.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the
purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will
close at the office of the State Forest Service, Palmerston
North, at 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, the 27th June, 1923.


SCHEDULE.

ALL the milling-timber on that parcel of land, containing
approximately 662 acres, in Provisional State Forest No. 68,
being portion of Section 1A 1, Raketapaua Block, situated
in Block III, Maungakaretu Survey District.

The total estimated quantity of timber in superficial feet
is 9,147 500, being rimu 6,828,700, matai 1,318,500, kahikatea
441,200, totara 559,100.

Upset price, £14,500.

Ground rent, 1s. per acre per annum, payable half-yearly
in advance.

The timber is situated about six miles from Tangiwai
Railway-station.

Five years will be allowed in which to remove the timber.

Terms of Payments.—A marked cheque for one-tenth of
the purchase-money, together with a half-year’s ground rent
and £1 1s. license fee, plus exchange, must accompany the
tender, and the balance be paid by nineteen equal quarterly
instalments, the first of which shall be paid three months
after date of sale.

In addition, the successful tenderer shall continue to pay
such ground rent half-yearly in advance during the currency
of the license.

All instalment-payments shall be secured by “On de-
mand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satis-
faction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest
at current bank rates will be charged on all notes overdue
from the date of maturity to the date of payment. The
successful tenderer shall also be liable to pay any claims or
charges which may be made by the local body for the main-
tenance of the road over which the timber is to be trans-
ported, and before a sawmill license is issued a letter indicating
that satisfactory arrangements have been made in this con-
nection must be produced to the undersigned.


CONDITIONS OF SALE.

  1. The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in
    accordance with the terms of the Forests Act, 1921–22, the
    regulations in force thereunder, and the following conditions.

  2. Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality
    and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters
    relative to the sale.

  3. The aforementioned quantities, qualities, and kinds as
    to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for
    the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase
    shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be en-
    titled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber
    being of less quantity, quality, or kind than as stated herein
    or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.

  4. The promissory notes will be presented at intervals as
    indicated in the terms of payment, but they may be presented
    for payment at earlier dates if it is found that more than
    a due proportion of the timber has been cut, or should any
    breach of the conditions occur, or if in the opinion of the
    Conservator the interests of the Crown are being jeopardized.

  5. Each tenderer must state the total price that he is pre-
    pared to pay for each species. The highest or any tender
    will not necessarily be accepted, and the timber described is
    submitted for sale subject to the final acceptance of the
    tender by the Commissioner of State Forests.

  6. A return, verified by affidavit, giving the number of
    logs cut of each species and their contents, must be made
    quarterly by the licensee each quarter ending on the last day
    of March, June, September, and December respectively in
    each year. A return, similarly verified, must be made on
    the same dates showing the output of sawn timber of each
    species.

  7. The licensee shall not put, throw, or place, or allow to be
    put, thrown, or placed, into any river, stream, or watercourse,
    or into any place where it may be washed into any river,
    stream, or watercourse, any sawdust or other sawmill refuse.

  8. The licensee shall take all reasonable precautions by way
    of providing such safeguards as may be required by the
    Conservator for the prevention of damage to the adjacent
    bush by fires caused by sparks from locomotives, log-haulers,
    or otherwise, and shall be liable for any damage thereto in
    consequence of any negligence or disregard of these conditions.
