Appointing Saturday as the Statutory Closing-day in the Lumsden Town District.

WHEREAS a poll to determine the statutory closing-day in the Lumsden Town District was duly taken under the authority of section 20 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, on the 20th day of September, 1922 :

And whereas the Clerk of the Lumsden Town Board has notified me that the majority of the votes given at such poll were in favour of the appointment of Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the Lumsden Town District :

Now, therefore, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 20 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, do hereby appoint Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the Lumsden Town District as from the 11th day of January, 1923.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Boot and Shoe Dealers’ and (2) Stationers’ Shops in the Borough of Sumner.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) boot and shoe dealer and (2) stationer in the Borough of Sumner, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8.30 p.m., with the exception that should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m., and on Friday 8.30 p.m. :

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) boot and shoe dealer and (2) stationer within the Borough of Sumner :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 11th day of January, 1923, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) boot and shoe dealer and (2) stationer within the Borough of Sumner shall be closed accordingly.

Appointment of Day for Nomination of Members of Court of Arbitration.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint the 27th day of January, 1923, as the day for the nomination of the following officers in accordance with section 66 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908, namely :—

A nominated member of the Court of Arbitration, to be appointed on the recommendation of industrial unions of employers ;

An acting nominated member of the Court of Arbitration, to be appointed on the like recommendation ;

A nominated member of the Court of Arbitration, to be appointed on the recommendation of industrial unions of workers ;

An acting nominated member of the Court of Arbitration, to be appointed on the like recommendation.

Revoking the Prohibition of Importation of Dogs from Great Britain.—Notice No. 2240.

Wellington, 8th January, 1923.

IT is hereby notified, for public information, that the notification dated 31st May, 1919, appearing in the New Zealand Gazette of 5th June, 1919, stating that owing to the severe outbreaks of rabies in England and Wales the importation of dogs from Great Britain was prohibited until further notice is revoked as from this date.

Appointing the Time and Place for the First Meeting of the South Canterbury Electric-power Board.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 of the Electric-power Boards Amendment Act, 1920, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Public Works, do hereby appoint Tuesday, the 23rd day of January, 1923, at 11 o’clock a.m., as the time, and the office of the Levels County Council, Church Street, Timaru, as the place, for holding the first meeting of the South Canterbury Electric-power Board.
