Tariff Agreement with the Union of South Africa.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 17th day of November, 1922.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section twenty-one of the Customs Amendment Act, 1921, certain Orders in Council made under the New Zealand and South African Customs Duties Reciprocity Act, 1906, for the purpose of carrying into effect a certain treaty made between the Government of New Zealand and the Governments of certain colonies in South Africa were continued in force: And whereas the said Orders in Council were revoked as from the first day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, by an Order in Council made under the Customs Amendment Act, 1921, on the third day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, and published in the Gazette of the sixth day of the same month: And whereas a further arrangement has been entered into between the Government of the Union of South Africa and the Government of New Zealand, which has been duly ratified by Parliament in terms of section ten of the Customs Amendment Act, 1921, by resolutions passed on the thirtieth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two: And whereas it is desired to alter the Tariff accordingly to give effect to the arrangement aforesaid:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers particularly conferred on him by sections eight and twelve of the Customs Amendment Act, 1921, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby suspend the existing Tariff upon the goods referred to in the Schedule hereto, being the produce or manufacture of the Union of South Africa, and in lieu thereof doth impose the duties and create the exemptions specified in that Schedule in respect to those goods; and doth hereby declare that this Order in Council shall be deemed to have taken effect on the first day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two.

Goods (being the produce or manufacture of the Union of South Africa)—

Tariff.

Feathers .. .. 15 per cent. ad valorem.
Fish .. .. 1½d. the pound.
Fruits, dried .. Free.
Fruits, green .. Free.
Maize .. .. 6d. the cental.
Sugar .. .. Free.
Tea .. .. 1d. the pound.
Wine, other than sparkling .. 3s. 6d. the gallon.
Wine, sparkling .. 9s. 6d. the gallon.
All other goods except spirits 3 per cent. less than the duty which would otherwise be payable.

Prohibiting the Exportation of Flour and Wheatmeal.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 17th day of November, 1922.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section forty-seven of the Customs Act, 1913, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby prohibit the exportation from New Zealand of flour and wheatmeal, save with the consent of the Minister of Customs.
