THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

DATE OF FIRST AND SUBSEQUENT ELECTIONS.
- (1.) The first election under these regulations shall be held on a date to be fixed in that behalf by the Minister.
(2.) Subsequent elections shall be held on the first Wednesday in August in every second year thereafter.
TERM OF OFFICE.

Every person elected pursuant to these regulations shall come into office on the date of his election, and shall continue in office until the election of his successor.

(1.) In the event of a European representative vacating his office (whether by death or otherwise) before the expiry of the term for which he was elected, a by-election shall be held, and the foregoing provisions shall apply in the same manner as to an ordinary election:
Provided that if a casual vacancy in the office of European representative occurs at any time within three months before the date of the biennial election, the Resident Commissioner may appoint a qualified person to hold office until the election.
(2.) Every person elected or appointed as a European representative at a by-election shall hold office for the unexpired term of office of his predecessor.
