Defining River, Extended-river, and Extreme Limits.

Marine Department, Wellington, 18th August, 1922.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 189 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Marine, do hereby define the limits, for the ports set forth in the first column of the Schedule hereto, within which restricted-limit steamships, and ships propelled by gas, oil, fluid, electricity, or any mechanical power other than steam, and to which restricted-limit certificates are issued, may ply, to be those set forth in the second, third, and fourth columns of the said Schedule respectively, and I do divide such limits into river, extended-river, and extreme limits respectively ; and I do also hereby revoke all Warrants heretofore in force defining any of the said limits.

SCHEDULE.

Akaroa .. .. Within Akaroa Heads .. .. Between Akaroa Head on the north, including the Lighthouse Landing, and a point not more than one mile to the south of Iron Head Between Akaroa and Lyttelton.
Aotea .. .. Inside a right line drawn from Potahi Point to Kapua-te-Mauna Nil .. .. .. .. Nil.
Auckland .. .. Auckland to inside Rangitoto Reef, Tamaki Strait, not beyond Koherunui Point, and inside Waiheke Channel In the Hauraki Gulf, inside a right line drawn from the north point of Cabbage (Colville) Bay to Shearer Rock, off Tiritiri Island, and thence to Tawharanui Point Nil.
Awanui .. .. Inside a line drawn from Blackney Point to Motu-tara Rocks, and thence west-south-west (magnetic) to the beach Inside a right line drawn from Cape Karaka to Farmer Point Nil.
Bay of Islands .. When plying within Bay of Islands river-limits proper—namely, inside a line starting from the north-easternmost point of the eastern entrance to Rangihoua Bay, from there going to the north-easternmost point of the easternmost of the Black Rocks, thence by a straight line to the northernmost point of Motu Arohia Island, thence by a straight line to the north-western point of Motu Rua Island, thence by a straight line to the north-western point of Motukiekie Island, thence by a straight line to the south-western point of Oruapukapuka Island, thence following the western and southern coast of that island to the point of the island immediately opposite Round Island, thence by a straight line to the south-western point of Richards Peninsula ; as the same is shown by red lines on the chart marked M.D. 5043, and deposited in the office of the Marine Department at Wellington When plying within Bay of Islands extended river-limits—namely, inside a straight line drawn from Cape Wiwiki to Cape Brett Nil.
Bluff .. .. Not beyond Stirling Point, Bluff Harbour Within a radius of twenty miles from light on Stirling Point (tugs, pilot-vessels, and dredges) Nil.
Catlin’s River .. Within Catlin’s River Heads .. Nil .. .. .. .. Nil.
Coromandel .. .. Inside a right line drawn from Deadman Point to Hautapu Point In the Hauraki Gulf, inside a right line drawn from Cabbage Bay to Shearer Rock, and thence to Tawharanui Point Nil.
Dunedin and Port Chalmers Inside Taiaroa Head. (Tugs, not beyond one mile outside Taiaroa Head) Within a radius of thirty miles from Taiaroa Head Lighthouse (fishing-boats only). Pilot vessels not beyond eight miles outside Taiaroa Head Nil.
Gisborne (Turanganui) Inside the bar, Gisborne Harbour In Poverty Bay, inside a right line drawn from Tuahina Point to Young Nick’s Head. Fishing-boats, between Cape Runaway on the north, and north end of Portland Island on the south Nil.
Great Barrier Island—Port Abercrombie and Port Fitzroy Inside a right line drawn from the outermost point of Green Island to Wellington Head, and thence to False Head Within a radius of three miles from the coast-line of the Great Barrier Island Nil.
Port Tryphena .. Inside a right line drawn from the outermost point of the eastern head of the outermost point of the north-western head Within a radius of three miles from the coast-line of the Great Barrier Island Nil.
Greymouth .. .. Inside the bar of the Grey River Nor more than ten miles from signal flagstaff (tugs and dredges not carry passengers) Nil.
