Notice of Change of the Purpose of a Reserve in the Town
of Hawera, Taranaki Land District.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

WHEREAS by section six of the Public Reserves and
Domains Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as "the
said Act"), the Governor-General is empowered, in the case
of any public reserve vested in His Majesty or the Governor-
General for any of the purposes comprised in Class II of the
Second Schedule to the said Act, to change the purpose for
which such reserve was set apart to any other purpose:

And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto
is a reserve duly set apart for a site for a drill-shed, being a
purpose within Class II in the Second Schedule to the said
Act, and it is expedient to change, as hereinafter provided,
the purpose of such reserve so set apart:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe,
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do
hereby, in pursuance of the powers conferred on me by
section six of the said Act as aforesaid, declare that the
reserve described in the Schedule hereto is hereby changed
from a site for a drill-shed to a site for a police-station.
And I do hereby further declare that this notice is issued
subject to the provisions of section seven of the said Act, and
shall take effect according to the provisions of that section.

Opening National-endowment Lands in Taranaki Land District
for Selection on Renewable Lease.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John
Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the
Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national-
endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be
open for selection on renewable lease on Friday, the twenty-
second day of September, one thousand nine hundred and
twenty-two, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule;
and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased
under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Ohura County.—Waro Survey District.

Section 15, Block VII: Area, 131 acres 0 roods 3 perches;
capital value, £200; half-yearly rent, £4.

Weighted with £30, valuation for improvements consisting
of whare, felling, and grassing.

Situated on the Tongaporutu-Mangaroa Road, about
twelve miles from Ohura, with which it is connected by un-
metalled dray-road. Access is from Okahukura Railway-
station, which is about thirty-nine miles distant. Soil is of
poor quality, resting on sandstone and papa formation.
The forest is mixed and fairly heavy, comprising rimu, tawa,
hinau, matai, &c., with a thick undergrowth of raurekau,
kotukutuku, pongas, ferns, &c. Fairly well watered by
creeks. The elevation ranges from 1,400 ft. to 1,600 ft.
above sea-level.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Pouatu Survey District.

Section 2, Block V: Area, 733 acres; capital value, £500;
half-yearly rent, £10.

Weighted with £500, valuation for improvements consisting
of 150 acres felled and grassed, 60 chains fencing, and slab
whare (iron roof).

Situated on the Maikai Road, about eight miles from the
Kohuratahi Railway-station. Access is from the Ohura
and Mangowata Roads, about three miles distant from
Kohuratahi. The Mangowata Road is partly dray-road
and partly bridle-track. The section is steep at back, but
easier towards the front. Soil is good quality, on papa
and sandstone formation. The forest is fairly dense, com-
prising rata, rimu, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supple-
jack, &c. Well watered by streams. The elevation ranges
from 300 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level.

contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valu-
able stone.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Ohura County.—Waro Survey District.

Section 2, Block VIII: Area, 466 acres; capital value, £590;
half-yearly rent, £11 16s.

Weighted with £300, valuation for improvements consisting
of fencing, grassing, and wahre, £89 of which must be paid
for in cash; balance may be arranged for by way of mort-
gage to the State Advances Office.

Situated on the Tongaporutu-Mangaroa and Huhatahi
Roads, about thirty-seven miles from Okahukura Railway-
station and eight miles from Ohura, being connected with
the latter by an unmetalled dray-road. The elevation is,
however, 700 ft. or 800 ft. higher than that of Ohura, and
consequently the cost of transport is heavier. The section is
well watered, is fairly steep, and comprises heavy mixed bush
growing on medium soil with sandstone and papa formation.
The elevation ranges from 700 ft. to 1,600 ft. above sea-level.

Ohura County.—Ohura Survey District.

Section 10, Block V: Area, 649 acres; capital value,
£1,300; half-yearly rent, £26.

Situated on the Mangaparare Road. Access from the Town
of Ohura, about one mile and a half distant by dray-road to
within 30 chains of section, balance at present unformed.
The section comprises rather steep country, covered with a
heavy forest of rata, rimu, tawa, tawhero, hinau, totara, miro,
rewarewa, &c., and a dense undergrowth of raurekau, kotuku-
tuku, rangiora, makomako, supplejacks, pongas, &c. Soil of
good quality, on papa and sandstone; well watered. Suit-
able for grazing, and should later on be capable of carrying
1,000 sheep when properly improved. The elevation ranges
from 500 ft. to 1,700 ft. above sea-level.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Waitomo County.—Totoro Survey District.

Section 11, Block V: Area, 278 acres; capital value,
£1,090; half-yearly rent, £21 16s.

The access is from Kopaki Railway-station, distant about
ten miles and a half, of which ten miles are good dray-road;
the remainder is unformed. The section comprises easy to
steep slopes, about one-third is open fern and manuka country,
mostly ploughable. The remainder of the section is heavy-
bush land. Elevation, 500 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

Section 16, Block V: Area, 435 acres; capital value,
£1,870; half-yearly rent, £37 8s.

Distant from Kopaki about eleven miles and a half, of
which ten miles are formed dray-road. The section com-
prises open fern and manuka country at the northern end,
and heavy mixed bush at the southern end. The northern
portion is easy and undulating, rising to high country. Soil
