Class B.
- Engine-room Artificers.—Fitters, coppersmiths, boilermakers, and enginesmiths not holding a Board of Trade certificate of competency or a certificate of competency granted under the New Zealand Shipping and Seamen Act, 1903, will be enrolled as acting engine-room artificers 4th class, provided they possess the qualifications required in the case of an acting engine-room artificer 4th class entering the seagoing service.
An acting engine-room artificer 4th class will be confirmed as engine-room artificer 4th class on completion of his first period of fourteen days' training, if recommended by the commanding officer and engineer officer of the ship in which the training is performed. Subsequent advancement will be as stated in the next paragraph.
- Engineers possessing a certificate of competency as 2nd or 3rd class engineer will be enrolled as engine-room artificer 4th class. They will be eligible for advancement under the regulations applicable to engine-room artificers in the seagoing forces, except that the time periods will be—
For advancement to 3rd class .. 2 years' service in the Reserve.
