Amending Rules as to Life-saving Appliances for Ships.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 16th day of May, 1922.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the fifth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 82, of the eighth day of the same month, an additional rule was made as to life-saving appliances for ships: And whereas it is desirable to revoke such rule and make a new rule in lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power conferred upon him by section one hundred and ninety-seven of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the said Order in Council of the fifth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, and doth hereby make the following rule as to life-saving appliances for ships.

RULE.

  1. Life-jackets previously passed.—Until the 31st March 1923, any life-jacket which has been previously passed by a Marine Department Surveyor as part of the statutory equipment of a vessel may be accepted as part of the statutory equipment of the same vessel so long as it remains in good condition.

Changing the Purpose of Portion of a Reserve in the Te Papa Parish, Auckland Land District.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto forms portion of a reserve duly set apart for plantation purposes, being a reserve within Class I of the Second Schedule of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908, and such land is not vested in trust in any society, body corporate, or trustees:

And whereas it is expedient that such land should be appropriated for a site for a public school, being a reserve within Class III of the aforesaid Act:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the eleventh section of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908, do by this notification declare that the said land shall, from and after the thirtieth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, be appropriated for a site for a public school under Class III of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908; and I do hereby direct that this notification shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District, being Allotment 604, Te Papa Parish (formerly part Allotment 472), and containing by admeasurement 2 acres 0 roods 1·45 perches, more or less. Bounded towards the south-east by a public road, 349·5 links; towards the south and west by Allotment 471, Te Papa Parish aforesaid, 550 and 326·9 links respectively; and towards the north by Allotment 472 of the same parish, 679·34 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 6/6/129, deposited in the Head Office, Lands and Survey Department; Wellington, and thereon edged red. (Auckland plan 19400.)

Appointing a Member of the Auckland Harbour Board.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

WHEREAS it is provided by section seventeen of the Harbours Amendment Act, 1910, that the office of any member of a Harbour Board shall become vacant if, inter alia, he dies:

And whereas it is provided by subsection two of section eighteen of the said Act that when an elective member other than a representative of a constituent district vacates his office on the Board through the operation of the said section seventeen the Governor-General may, by Warrant under his hand, appoint some qualified person in his place:

And whereas Harold Dennet Heather, an elective member of the Auckland Harbour Board, being a representative of the payers of harbour dues on ships, recently died, and it is desirable to appoint a qualified person as a representative of such payers of harbour dues in his place:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the hereinbefore-recited power and authority, doth hereby appoint James Henry Bradney to be a member of the Auckland Harbour Board as a representative of the payers of harbour dues on ships, in the place of Harold Dennet Heather, deceased.
