Notice to Mariners.—No. 3 of 1922.
AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—WHARF LIGHTS.—ALTERATION IN POSITION OF.

THE Auckland Harbour Board notifies that the light-stands containing the wharf distinguishing lights, which were situated at the centres of the outer ends of Queen’s and Central wharves, have now been transferred to the north-western (innermost) corners of sheds Nos. 16 and 9 respectively.
Charts, &c., affected.—Admiralty Chart No. 1970 ; “New Zealand Pilot,” 1919, ninth edition, page 192 ; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,” 1922, page 196, and plan facing page 200.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 4 of 1922.
WANGANUI HARBOUR.—ANCHORAGE BEACON ERECTED.

THE Wanganui Harbour Board notifies that a pyramidal-framed beacon, painted white and surmounted by a white disc having a red centre, and having a vertical red stripe under the disc, has been erected on the South Spit about half a mile south-east of the entrance.
Vessels approaching the anchorage should approach with the bar beacons in transit (059°) until the anchorage beacon is in transit (081°) with the brick smokestack of the Imlay Works of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company.
This is the most suitable position for vessels lightering in the roadstead; and is a safe fair-weather anchorage in from 8 to 9 fathoms; and is approximately 8 cables from the seaward end of the entrance moles.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, are published for general information.

ENGLAND.
SOUTH COAST.—DOVER STRAIT.—VARNE LIGHT-VESSEL.—AMENDED POSITION.
Position.—At a distance of about 2 cables northward from charted position. Lat. 50° 56′ 22″ N., long. 1° 16′ 52″ E.
Description.—As described in the Admiralty List of Lights.
Remarks.—The watch buoy is situated about 2 cables north-eastward from charted position, and 5·0 cables, 094°, from the light-vessel.
UNITED STATES.
ATLANTIC COAST.—NEW YORK LOWER BAY.—AMENDED POSITION OF AMBROSE LIGHT-VESSEL.—LEADER CABLE ESTABLISHED.
(1.) Amended position of Ambrose light-vessel :
Position.—At a distance of one cable, 180°, from charted position. Lat. 40° 27′ 56″ N., long. 73° 50′ 03″ W.
Description.—As described in the Admiralty List of Lights.
(2.) Leader cable :
Details.—A leader cable has been established in New York Lower Bay for the use of vessels entering or leaving New York Harbour in thick weather. The route followed by the cable is as follows :—
From the seaward end, which is situated 4 cables, 228°, from Ambrose light-vessel, the route follows a 294° direction to the light-and-whistle buoy with occulting white light in the approach to the Ambrose and Gedney channels. The cable passes about half a cable southward of the above light-and-whistle buoy, and thence lies along the centre of Ambrose dredged channel to a position situated 9·60 cables, 134°, from Fort Wadsworth Light-house; thence in a 335° direction for a distance of 7·30 cables, and thence to the shore at Fort Wadsworth.
Note.—The cable is to be inserted on the charts with the note “Leader cable (see Cautionary Note),” and the following note is to be placed below the titles of the charts :—
CAUTION.
Vessels are warned not to anchor in the vicinity of the Ambrose Channel leader cable.
Remarks.—The cable is now undergoing experimental tests. Further notice will be given when it has been officially declared available for general use.
AUSTRALIA.
QUEENSLAND, EAST COAST.—CAPRICORN CHANNEL.—BREAKER REPORTED.
Position.—At a distance of 10 miles, 019°, from North Reef Lighthouse. Lat. 23° 02′ S., long. 152° 00′ E. (approx.).
Details.—From North Reef Lighthouse the sea was observed to break heavily in the above position while a heavy swell was running, no other broken water being visible.
Note.—The position is to be encircled by a danger line on the charts and marked with the note “Breaker reported (1921).”

BAY OF PLENTY.—UNCHARTED ROCK.

INFORMATION has been received from the master of the s.s. “Ngatiawa” of the existence of an uncharted rock, showing 2 ft. above water, existing in latitude 36° 56′ S., longitude 176° 7′ E.
This rock is situated about 1·2 miles N.E. of the north-easternmost island of the Alderman Group; and mariners should give this locality a wide berth until a closer examination has been made, as, from the nature of the locality, other undiscovered outliers may exist.
Charts, &c., affected.—Admiralty Charts Nos. 3332 and 2543 ; “New Zealand Pilot,” 1919, ninth edition, pages 233 and 234.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Land for Disposal in Hawke’s Bay Land District.

NOTICE is hereby given, in pursuance of section 326 of the Land Act, 1908, that the undermentioned land will be disposed of under section 131 of the Land Act, 1908, to the holders of the adjacent land, on and after Thursday, the 9th February, 1922.
