Opening Settlement Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and amendments, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the twenty-fifth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.

Hikuai Settlement.—Thames County.—Tairua Survey District.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Section 11: Area, 398 acres 0 roods 20 perches; capital value, £1,840; half-yearly rent, £41 8s.

Section 17: Area, 325 acres; capital value, £1,240; half-yearly rent, £27 18s.

THIRD-CLASS LAND.

Section 25: Area, 2,090 acres 3 roods; capital value, £4,100; half-yearly rent, £92 5s.

Section 26: Area, 2,301 acres 2 roods; capital value, £4,200; half-yearly rent, £94 10s.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Hauraki Plains County.—Piako Survey District.

Section 6, Block VII: Area, 448 acres 3 roods 23 perches. Capital value, £670. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £16 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £13 8s.

Distant about seven miles by well-formed cart-road from Waitakaruru, which is accessible by launches from Auckland or Thames. Rather broken land; covered with fern and manuka. Clay soil of rather poor quality; not well watered. Altitude, 100 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level.

Section 15, Block XVI: Area, 79 acres 1 rood 5 perches. Capital value, £200. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4.

Section 16, Block XVI: Area, 78 acres 0 roods 2 perches. Capital value, £200. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4.

Situated on the Morrinsville-Waitakaruru Road, about two miles and a quarter north of Patetonga by formed cart-road mostly unmetalled. Open undulating to hilly and partly broken land, in short tea-tree and fern; about two-thirds ploughable. Soil a heavy clay, on clay formation; fairly well watered by springs and swamps. Altitude, 50 ft. to 350 ft. above sea-level.

Hauraki Plains County.—Waitoa Survey District.

Section 10, Block V: Area, 296 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £150. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £3 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £3.

Distant about sixteen miles from Morrinsville by partly metalled cart-road.* Hilly land in fern and scrub. Soil inferior clay, on slate formation; poorly watered. Altitude, 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level.

Section 11, Block V: Area, 295 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £190. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £4 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £3 16s.

Distant about five miles from Tahuna by formed road. Undulating to broken land, covered with fern and scrub. Soil of inferior quality, on clay subsoil; well watered by small streams. Altitude, 200 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level.

Section 12, Block V: Area, 321 acres 2 roods 34 perches. Capital value, £200. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4.

Distant about four miles from Tahuna by fair road. Manuka and fern land, partly undulating, but mostly broken. Soil of inferior quality, on clay subsoil; poorly watered by springs. Altitude, 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level.

Tauranga County.—Katikati Survey District.

Section 25, Block IV: Area, 440 acres. Capital value, £880. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £22. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £17 12s.

Section 26, Block IV: Area, 412 acres. Capital value, £820. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £20 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £16 8s.

Section 27, Block IV: Area, 479 acres. Capital value, £960. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £24. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £19 4s.

These sections are situated between Waihi and Katikati, being seven to eight miles from the former (about five miles formed) and six to seven and a half miles from the latter (three miles formed and two miles partly formed). Section 25 consists of broken land covered with heavy forest; Section 26, broken land, about 360 acres forest, balance fern and manuka; Section 27, undulating, about 200 acres forest, balance fern and manuka. The forest comprises mostly tawa, rata, and rimu. Soil a light loam, resting on sandstone formation; all sections well watered by streams. Altitude, 500 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.
