Arrivals and Departures in 1920.

TABLES showing the numbers of arrivals in and departures from New Zealand during the year 1920, with totals for the previous nine years by way of comparison, are published for general information.
The total number of persons who arrived in the Dominion during 1920 was 44,062, and the departures during the year numbered 32,924, the excess of arrivals over departures for the year being 11,138.
According to returns furnished by the Immigration officers, 12,340 persons arrived from the United Kingdom, and 3,995 persons departed therefor during the year. From the Commonwealth of Australia the arrivals are returned as numbering 26,125 persons, and the departures thereto as 23,768 persons. Arrivals and departures from and to other countries were 5,597 and 5,761 persons respectively.
Of the 44,062 persons who came to New Zealand last year, 6,216, or 14·11 per cent. of the total, were children—i.e., under twelve years of age; and of the 32,924 departures the children numbered 3,479, or 10·56 per cent.
The arrivals and departures shown for the period 1914 to 1920 do not include members of the Expeditionary Forces.
