Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

Wellington, 31st May, 1921.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Board of the Wairarapa Electric-power District, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

WAIRARAPA ELECTRIC-POWER BOARD.

Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Wairarapa Electric-power District was taken on the 27th day of April, 1921, on the proposal of the Wairarapa Electric-power Board to borrow the sum of £260,000 for reticulation of the Wairarapa Electric-power District for electric current.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 1,703, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 225.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

WHAKATANE HARBOUR BOARD.

Loan of £20,000 for Harbour Improvements.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Whakatane Harbour District taken on the 16th day of April, 1921, on the proposal of the Whakatane Harbour Board to borrow the sum of £20,000 for harbour improvements, &c., there was polled the number of votes as under:-

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 227, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 168; the number of votes recorded as informal was 5.

I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

Appointing Saturday as the Statutory Closing-day in the Separate District of the Borough of Featherston.

WHEREAS a poll to determine the statutory closing-day in the separate district of the Borough of Featherston was duly taken under the authority of section 17 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, on the 27th day of April, 1921:

And whereas the Town Clerk of the separate district of the Borough of Featherston has notified me that the majority of the votes given at such poll were in favour of the appointment of Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the separate district of the Borough of Featherston:

Now, therefore, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 17 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, as amended by section 5 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1920, do hereby appoint Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the separate district of the Borough of Featherston as from the 3rd day of June, 1921.

And whereas the Town Clerk of the separate district of the Borough of Masterton has notified me that the majority of the votes given at such poll were in favour of the appointment of Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the separate district of the Borough of Masterton:

Now, therefore, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 17 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, as amended by section 5 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1920, do hereby appoint Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the separate district of the Borough of Masterton as from the 6th day of June, 1921.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers’ and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of Timaru, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Timaru has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough be closed in the evenings of working-days as follows: Subject to closing at not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory half-holiday, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 10 p.m., with the exception that in the evening of the working-day that first precedes Christmas Day and in the evening of the working-day that first precedes New Year’s day the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Timaru:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, I do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of June, 1921, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Timaru shall be closed accordingly.

The notice gazetted on the 10th October, 1918, fixing the closing-hours of hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Timaru is hereby cancelled as from the date of coming into operation of this notice.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Cycle-dealers’, (2) Motor-cycle Dealers’, and(3) Cycle and Motor-cycle Accessory Dealers’ Shops in the Borough of Timaru, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) cycle-dealer, (2) motor-cycle dealer, and (3) cycle and motor-cycle accessory dealer within the Borough of Timaru, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough be closed in the evenings of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m.:

The notice gazetted on the 20th June, 1918, fixing the closing-hours of cycle, motor-cycle, and cycle and motor-cycle accessory shops in the Borough of Timaru is hereby cancelled as from the date of coming into operation of this notice.

Successful tenderers: N.Z. Coal-tar Products (Limited), Wanganui, for delivery at Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill-

Sheep-dip, 6s. 6d. per gallon.

Disinfectants, 5s. 6d. per gallon.
