Extending Rating-powers of Huntly Town Board.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 3rd day of May, 1921.

Present :

PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS it is provided by section forty-one of the Finance Act, 1920, that the Governor-General may, by Order in Council, on the recommendation of a Commission appointed under the said section, increase the rating-powers of the Huntly Town Board to such extent as the Governor-General deems advisable, anything to the contrary in any Act notwithstanding :

And whereas a Commission appointed under the said section held inquiries, and recommended that the rating-powers of the said Board be increased, and it is desirable to increase such rating-powers in manner hereinafter appearing :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said section forty-one of the Finance Act, 1920, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby declare that, notwithstanding anything contained in the Town Boards Act, 1908, or any other Act, it shall be lawful for the said Huntly Town Board to levy general rates in each year on all rateable property within the district of the said Board, but so that the maximum general rate in any year shall not exceed two-pence in the pound on the capital value of rateable property, or its equivalent on the unimproved value, or two shillings and sixpence in the pound on the annual value, as the case may be ; and doth hereby further declare that such authority as aforesaid shall take effect in respect of general rates to be made and levied by the said Town Board during the financial year ending the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one.
