Minister’s Decisions under Customs Duties Act.

Customs Department, Wellington, 8th March, 1921.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Minister of Customs has decided to interpret the Customs Duties Act in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:—

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the Dominion” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus † are revised decisions.

General Tariff.
†5/37/9 A. & m.s., viz. :—
Straw plait and imitation straw plait, mixed with chenille, for hat and bonnet making, not being hat and bonnet trimmings As a. & m.s. (482) Free.
13/28/4 Beads—viz., amber beads (claimed as precious stones, unmounted) As fancy goods (127) 20 per cent.
3/262/3 Buckles, metal, with a slide ratchet grip, used in the manufacture of Boy Scouts’ and other leather belts As manufactured articles of metal, n.o.e. (183) 20 per cent.
13/29/3 Lenses for cinematographs or magic lanterns, viz. :—
Condenser lenses, mounted, not exceeding 4⅓ in. in diameter (even if claimed to be for enlarging cameras) As parts of cinematographs or magic lanterns (131) 20 per cent. 10 per cent.
13/29/3 Lenses for cinematographs, magic lanterns, photographic cameras, and other optical instruments, if unmounted and without metal attachments As opticians’ lenses (279). Free.
2/190/2 Machinery, agricultural, viz. :—
Steel box press, the “Cutler,” for pressing down fruit in a case so that lid may be nailed on As agricultural machines, n.o.e. (357) Free.
13/64/2 Pedicure sets, “Dr. Scholl’s,” consisting of articles for cutting, filing, and polishing the toe-nails (claimed as surgical instruments) As fancy goods (127) 20 per cent.
15/50 Scientific apparatus, viz. :—
Bark-rippers, metal boxes with glass lids, butterfly nets, and pins, specially suited for the use of entomologists As scientific apparatus (280) Free.
16/56 “Lovibond’s” milk tintometer, an instrument for use in colour determinations
