THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, are published for general information.

MEDITERRANEAN.
GREECE, GULF OF PATRAS.
(1.) Sosti Island Light.—Alteration in Period.
Position.—Lat. 38° 19′ N., long. 21° 23′ E.
New Abridged Description.—Lt. occ., W.R., ev. 5 secs., 41 ft., vis. 11 m.
Alteration.—The period of this occulting light with white and red sectors has been altered from twenty seconds to five seconds, thus—light 4 secs., eclipse 1 sec.
(2.) Cape Papas Light.—Alteration in Character.
Position.—Lat. 38° 13′ N., long. 21° 22½′ E.
New Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. occ. (2), ev. 15 secs., 30 ft., vis. 10 m.
Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from fixed red to group occulting white having two eclipses every fifteen seconds, thus—light 2½ secs., eclipse 2½ secs. ; light 7½ secs., eclipse 2½ secs.
Remarks.—The light is now visible 10 miles.
EGYPT.—ALEXANDRIA HARBOUR APPROACH, GREAT PASS BEACON.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER OF LIGHT.
Position.—On the southern side of the entrance to Great Pass. Lat. 31° 10′ N., long. 29° 48½′ E.
New Abridged Description.—(U) Lt. gp. fl. (2), ev. 7 secs., 65 ft., vis. 5 m.
Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from occulting white to group flashing white showing two flashes every seven seconds.
AFRICA.
NORTH-WEST COAST.—MOROCCO.—CAPE DAR EL BEIDA.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.
Position.—On Aunk Promontory. Lat. 33° 36′ 48″ N., long. 7° 39′ 22″ W.
Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (3), ev. 15 secs., vis. 16 m.
Characteristics :
Character.—Group flashing white, showing three flashes every fifteen seconds.
Elevation.—Not stated.
Visibility.—16 miles.
Remarks.—Further details are not stated.
CHILE.
MOCHA ISLAND.—LIGHTS EXTINGUISHED.
(a.) Position.—Anegadiza Point. Lat. 38° 24′ S., long. 73° 53¼′ W.
Description.—A group flashing white light.
(b.) Position.—Morro de las Torrecillas. Lat. 38° 23′ S., long. 73° 57½′ W.
Description.—A flashing white light.
Remarks.—The above lights are extinguished, the lighthouses having been destroyed by an earthquake.
Note.—The note “Destroyed (1920)” is to be placed against these lights on the charts.
NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
SANDWICH ISLANDS, OAHU.—KAENA POINT.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.
Position.—Lat. 21° 34′ N., long, 158° 16′ 55″ W.
Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., ev. 3 secs., 65 ft., vis. 10 m.
Characteristics :
Character.—Flashing white every three seconds, thus—flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.
Elevation.—65 ft.
Visibility.—10 miles.
Power.—190 candles.
Structure.—White pyramidal concrete tower, 20 ft. in height.
CHINA SEA.
FORMOSA ISLAND.—PINAMU.—LIGHT RE-EXHIBITED ; ALTERATION IN CHARACTERISTICS.
Position.—In the position of the old lighthouse which was destroyed in the year 1919. Lat. 22° 44¾′ N., long. 121° 9′ E.
New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., ev. 3 secs., 56 ft., vis. 13 m.
Alteration.—The elevation, visibility, and structure of the new light differ from those of the former light, and are now as follows :—
Elevation.—56 ft.
Visibility.—13 miles, from 222°, through west, to 46°.
Structure.—White octagonal concrete tower, 27 ft. in height.
Remarks.—The character of the light is unaltered.
Note.—The note “Destroyed (1919)” is to be expunged from the charts.

KAIPARA BAR.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 16th November, 1920.
NOTICE is hereby given that when Captain Bollons of the Government s.s. “Hinemoa” was sounding on the Kaipara Bar on the 27th October, the shoalest water obtained with the lower beacon and the flagstaff in line was 24 ft. L.W.O.S.T., and with the beacons in line 25 ft. L.W.O.S.T.
When abreast of the Tory Shoal vessels should be slightly to the northward of the line of beacons, or with the beacons one or two widths of themselves open of one another, and a careful watch should be kept of the signal-staff.
Notice to Mariners No. 73 of 1919 is hereby cancelled.
Charts, &c., affected.—Admiralty Charts Nos. 2614, 2543 ; “New Zealand Pilot,” 8th edition, page 209, 9th edition, page 57 ; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,” 1919, pages 329 and 330, 1920, pages 329 and 330.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 66 of 1920.
GISBORNE ROADSTEAD.—BUOY ON TEMOANA ROCK.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 16th November, 1920.
MARINERS are hereby warned that the buoy exhibiting a red flashing light which marks Temoana Rock in Gisborne Roadstead will be removed for overhaul on or about the 6th December.
A substitute buoy, being black and unlighted, will mark the rock temporarily.
