Assumption of the Government of New Zealand by the Admiral of the Fleet, Viscount Jellicoe.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS His Majesty King George the Fifth was graciously pleased, by a Commission passed under the Royal Sign-manual and Signet, bearing date at Saint James’s, the fifth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty, to constitute and appoint me, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, to be Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies:

Now, I, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before the Honourable Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and that I have assumed the said office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies under and by virtue of His Majesty’s said Commission.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Admiral of the Fleet, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Member of the Order of Merit, Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-seventh day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and twenty.
