Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force
upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me
under the Government Railways Act, 1908, and its
amendments, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Rail-
ways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale
of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand
Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to
come into force on and after the 26th day of August, 1920.

PART I.—PASSENGERS.

GENERAL FARES AND REGULATIONS AND LOCAL FARES AND
REGULATIONS.

ALL passenger fares in force on the 26th day of August, 1920,
with the undermentioned exceptions, will, on and after that
date, be increased by one-fourth (¼); minimum increase,
twopence.

Exceptions.

Schedule of fares for ordinary tickets, and all fares
based thereon.

Schedule of fares for holiday excursion tickets, and all
fares based thereon.

Schedule of suburban fares, and all fares based thereon.

Schedule of excursion fares for school parties, factories,
and friendly societies, fares for weekly 12-trip tickets,
fares for workers’ weekly tickets, fares for motor between
Culverden–Hanmer and intermediate places.

The minimum fare for newspaper reporters’ single and
return tickets and Railway employees’ single and return
tickets, charged at one-fourth the ordinary rates, will be 9d.
first class and 6d. second class, single or return.

PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.

All charges for parcels, luggage, bicycles, horses, carriages,
motor-cars, dogs, &c., in force on the 26th day of August, 1920,
with the undermentioned exceptions, will, on and after that
date, and until further notice, be increased by one-third (⅓);
minimum increase twopence, except in the case of checked,
lost, and left luggage, for which the minimum increase will
be one penny.

The charge for each check issued for luggage conveyed by
railway and ferry steamer between points in the North and
South Islands will be ninepence.

Exceptions.

Tabulated parcels rates.

Horses.

Carriages.

The charges on fresh fish, fresh fruit, and fresh milk
will be increased by one-tenth (¹⁄₁₀) only.

PARTS III AND IV.—GOODS RATES.

All charges, general and local, for conveyance of goods and
live-stock, and all charges for haulage, storage, demurrage,
&c., in force on the 26th day of August, 1920, with the under-
mentioned exceptions, will, on and after that date, and until
further notice, be increased by two-fifths (⅖); minimum
increase, twopence.

Exceptions.

The charges on bread, flour, fresh milk, fresh fruit,
fresh fish, fresh meat, tea, and sugar will be increased by
one-tenth (¹⁄₁₀) only.

The charges on wheat will be increased by one-fifth (⅕)
only.

The charges for conveyance of timber under the rates
and regulations of class “K” will be increased by one-
seventh (¹⁄₇) only.

PART VI.—WHARVES.

All charges in operation in respect to Railway wharves
on the 26th day of August, 1920, with the undermentioned
exceptions, will, on and after that date, and until further
notice, be increased by two-fifths (⅖); minimum increase,
twopence.

Exceptions.

The charges on bread, flour, fresh milk, fresh fruit,
fresh fish, fresh meat, tea, and sugar will be increased
by one-tenth (¹⁄₁₀) only.

The charges on wheat will be increased by one-fifth (⅕)
only.

LAKE WAKATIPU STEAMERS.

All fares on Lake Wakatipu steamers in force on the 26th
day of August, 1920, will, on and after that date, and until
further notice, be increased by one-fourth (¼). All other
charges in operation in respect to the Lake Wakatipu
steamer service, with the undermentioned exceptions, will,
on and after that date, and until further notice, be increased
by two-fifths (⅖); minimum increase, twopence.

Exceptions.

The charges on bread, flour, fresh milk, fresh fruit,
fresh fish, fresh meat, tea, and sugar, will be increased
by one-tenth (¹⁄₁₀) only.

The charges on wheat will be increased by one-fifth (⅕)
only.

The charges on timber will be increased by one-
seventh (¹⁄₇) only.

The increase of fares by one penny for every shilling or
fraction of a shilling, and the increase of rates and charges by
ten per centum, as provided for in the New Zealand Gazette
No. 109, of 16th September, 1915, is hereby cancelled.

The increase of fares by one penny for every shilling or
fraction of a shilling, and the increase of charges by ten per
centum, as provided for in the New Zealand Gazette No. 170,
of 22nd November, 1917, is hereby cancelled. (Gazette
