Soil a medium loam on sandstone and papa formation. Forest
varies from heavy in the basins to light on the ridges, and
consists of rimu, rata, tawa, tawhero, with some matai,
kahikatea, totara, hinau, miro, &c., and a dense undergrowth
of supplejack, mahoe, &c.; well watered by permanent
streams. Elevation 700 ft. to 1,800 ft. above sea-level.

Waimarino County.—Makotuku Survey District.

Lot 1, Block VII: Area, 161 acres 3 roods; capital value,
£1,940; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding
interest), £97; half-yearly rent on lease, £43 13s.

Lot 2, Block VII: Area, 137 acres 1 rood; capital value,
£1,370; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding
interest), £68 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £30 16s. 6d.

Lot 1.—Situated about two miles and a half from Ohakune
by good metalled road, and about four miles and three-
quarters from Raetihi. About 130 acres milled bush, burnt
and partly grassed; balance green bush consisting of kahi-
katea, rimu, matai, tawa, miro, maire, &c., with some totara.
Good soil, on papa formation; well watered by running
streams. A good section.

Lot 2.—Situated about two miles and a half from Ohakune
by good metalled road, and about four miles and three-
quarters from Raetihi. Level to undulating bush land
practically all milled and burnt, and partly grassed, although
a portion is covered with second growth. Soil of good
quality, on papa formation; well watered by running streams.

Special Conditions.—1. These lots are offered subject to
the milling rights over them held by Mr. A. P. Smith.

  1. The buildings on the lots are the property of Mr. A. P.
    Smith, who will have the right to allow his employees to
    occupy them until the termination of his milling license,
    and then to remove them.

  2. Until the termination of his milling license the employees
    of Mr. A. P. Smith will have the right of ingress, egress, and
    regress, on condition that they shut any gates that they may
    use, and do not damage the settler’s fences.

  3. The lessees will be required to fence, at their own cost,
    the boundaries of their holdings, so that their stock may not
    trespass on the adjoining Crown lands held under milling
    license. When Lots 3 and 4 are selected, the lessees of these
    lots will be liable for half cost of the fences between them
    and Lots 1 and 2.

  4. The right is reserved to Mr. A. P. Smith to lay trams
    through Lots 1 and 2 in connection with his milling opera-
    tions.

  5. The firewood cut and stacked on the lots is the property
    of Mr. A. P. Smith, who will be allowed three months from
    date of ballot in which to remove it.

Section 33.—One mile from Owhango Railway-station by
dray-road. About 60 acres sown in English grasses. Flat
land, swampy in parts.

Section 34.—Half a mile from Owhango Railway-station
by dray-road. Patches of grass and clover on the north and
western portions. Flat land.

Section 35.—Two miles from Owhango Railway-station by
dray-road, half a mile by unformed road. Small portion
in English grasses. Flat land, swampy in parts.

Section 36.—Two miles and a quarter from Owhango
Railway-station—by dray-road one mile and a half, by
unformed road three-quarters of a mile. Land mostly level,
swampy in parts.

Section 37.—Half a mile from Owhango Railway-station
by main road. Flat undulating land.

Section 38.—One mile from Owhango Railway-station by
dray-road. Flat to slightly undulating land.

Section 39.—One mile and a half from Owhango Railway-
station by dray-road. Flat land.

Section 40.—Two miles from Owhango Railway-station by
dray-road. Flat land.

General Description.—Flat and undulating well-watered
land, swampy in places, suitable for dairying when cleared.
Parts of several of the sections have been sown with English
grasses. The bush has been milled; the remaining timber
consists of tawa, tawhero, &c., with the usual undergrowth.

Soil is light vegetable mould on pumice formation. Situated
from about half a mile to two miles and a half from Owhango
Railway-station. Elevation about 1,500 ft. above sea-level.
Provision has been made for the formation of necessary roads.

Land in the Southland Land District for Sale by Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section
will be offered for sale by public auction for cash, under
the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, at the District Lands
and Survey Office, Invercargill, on Monday, the 13th day of
September, 1920.

SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—RURAL LAND.

SECTION 5, Heddou Bush Township, Southland County:
Area, 5 acres; upset price, £37 10s.

DESCRIPTION.

Level land of good quality, covered with white-pine timber.
Access unformed for last half-mile.

CONDITIONS OF SALE.

One-fifth of the purchase-money to be paid on the fall of
the hammer, and the balance, with Crown-grant fee (£1),
within thirty days thereafter, otherwise the part of the
purchase-money paid by way of deposit shall be forfeited,
and the contract for the sale of the land be null and void.

Title will be subject to Part XIII of the Land Act, 1908.

Land in North Auckland Land District for Lease to
Discharged Soldiers.

North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 31st July, 1920.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned land
is open for renewable lease to Discharged Soldiers,
under the Land Act, 1908, the Discharged Soldiers Settle-
ment Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and that
applications will be received at the North Auckland District
Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on
Monday, 27th September, 1920.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board
for examination at the North Auckland District Lands and
Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, 29th September,
1920, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant so desires he
may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.

The ballot will be held at the District Lands and Survey
Office, North Auckland, at the conclusion of the examination
of applicants.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

National Endowment.—Pukipuhi Mining District.—Whangarei
County.—Hukerenui Survey District.

SECTION 16, Block VII: Area, 208 acres; capital value,
£525; half-yearly rental on renewable lease, £10 10s.

Weighted with £17 for improvements.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION.

Ten acres rich alluvial flats; 162 acres easy undulating
land sloping away from flats, soil of fair quality covered with
strong fern; 36 acres of broken land of fair quality; very
well watered by running creeks. About four miles from
Whakapara Station by formed vehicle road.

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS.

Applications must be made on proper forms, to be obtained
at the District Lands and Survey Office, North Auckland, and
the principal post-offices in the locality of the lands to be
opened.

The lands are described for the general information of
intending selectors, who are recommended, nevertheless, to
make a personal inspection, as the Department is not respon-
sible for the absolute accuracy of any description.

Applicants must produce their discharges for inspection by
the Land Board.

Advances up to £500 may be made to selectors on current
account, but this may be increased by £250 in special cases.
In no case shall the amount advanced for erecting a dwelling-
house and other buildings exceed £350, the amount in ordi-
nary cases allowed for this purpose being £250.
