Position.—Lat. 34° 4′ S., long. 137° 24′ E., on Chart No. 2389.
Details.—The flashing light with white and red sectors will be replaced by a new light having the undermentioned characteristics :—
Character.—Group flashing light, with white and red sectors, showing two flashes in quick succession every ten seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec. ; flash ½ sec., eclipse 8 secs.
Visibility.—White, 15 miles ; red, 7 miles.
Power.—White, 5,000 candles ; red, 2,000 candles.
Remarks.—The light will be unwatched. The signal-station and fog-gong will be discontinued and the Lightkeepers withdrawn. The other details of the light will remain unchanged.
Note.—No further notice will be given.
GULF OF ST. VINCENT.—MAGNETIC DISTURBANCE.
Position.—Cape Jervis, lat. 35° 37′ S., long. 138° 6′ E.
Details.—A strong magnetic disturbance, causing the compass-needle to swing about 6 points, was experienced on 12th March, 1920, in the Gulf of St. Vincent, between Cape Jervis and the parallel of latitude 35° S. The disturbance occurred in the evening and lasted for about 2½ hours.
ADMIRALTY PUBLICATIONS.
NEW EDITION OF “NEW ZEALAND PILOT.”
A ninth edition of the “New Zealand Pilot,” dated 11th October, 1919, has been published. A list of Notices to Mariners issued since the book went to press will be issued in this year’s Almanac, which, it is expected, will be published towards the end of this year.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder ; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 23rd August, 1920.
The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, 25th August, 1920, at 10 o’clock a.m. The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
These sections are part of the original Galloway Station. They are situated from two to five miles from Galloway Railway-siding on a well-formed road. There is a school and post-office on Galloway Flat. Each section contains a proportion of very fair land, and varying areas in each may be irrigated by water from the Bonanza Water-race, to which it is possible to supply water from the Manorburn – Ida Valley Irrigation Scheme.

NOTICE is hereby given, in terms of the Land Act, 1908, and the Timber Regulations thereunder, that written tenders are invited from dairying companies only, and will be received at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 12 o’clock noon on Thursday, 19th August, 1920, for the purchase of certain milling-timber on the undermentioned Crown land.

CONDITIONS OF SALE.

Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality and satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relating to their tenders.

The right is reserved to the Commissioner of Crown Lands to withdraw from sale the above lot of timber.

The aforementioned quantity, quality, and kind as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purpose of this sale, and no contract for purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, and kind than as stated herein or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber, nor shall any extra sum be claimed by the Crown if the said quantity of timber is found to be in excess of that stated herein.

All timber, whether standing, felled, or in logs, shall remain the property of the Crown until the instalments are paid.
