SUMMARY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY, 1920.

The May rainfall was below the average in all but the northern and southernmost districts and in parts of North Canterbury. The weather, however, was very unsettled, particularly during the last half of the month, when some very intense and extensive westerly disturbances accounted for a prevalence of strong west to southwest winds and squally, showery conditions.

From the 10th to the 13th, while a cyclone passed in the North, dull misty weather was experienced with occasional heavy rain in the northern and East Coast districts.

Anticyclonic conditions ruled between the 4th and 9th, and this was the only period during which fair weather prevailed over the whole Dominion.
